Description
Job Summary:
Under the direction of the Dir. Biomedical Engineering, installs, inspects, troubleshoots, repairs, and performs preventive maintenance, incoming inspections, and modifications of medical equipment, non-medical equipment, and communications equipment in accordance with established policies and procedures, manufacturer service requirements, and regulatory codes and standards. Job responsibilities include a strong emphasis on the maintenance and support of low-risk medical equipment, medium-risk medical equipment and high-technology equipment (computer-based equipment, networking systems, etc.). Also, responsible for providing service support for a limited range of high-risk medical equipment (i.e. infusion pumps, ventilators, surgical lasers, etc.).

Minimal Acceptable Job Qualifications:
Current drivers license; must meet present hospital insurance carrier's minimum requirements acceptable under the insurability guidelines related to driving hospital owned vehicles.
Experience:
Minimum of an AS Degree in Biomedical Equipment Technology from an accredited college, or a certificate from a military biomedical training program, or an equivalent accredited technical degree
Evidence of a technical education and a strong background in Electronics or Information Systems/Computer Science will be considered in lieu of Biomedical Engineering education.
Completion of one or more of the following educational courses or technical certifications is preferred:
Certificate or diploma in biomedical equipment technology, or
CBET certification from the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instruments, or
IT network and/or IT server certification, or
Completion of college-level course work in basic chemistry and basic anatomy/physiology.
Registration/Certification:
None is required, Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) certification a plus.
Job Knowledge & Skills:
Demonstrates a strong working knowledge of the English language, both verbal and written.
Demonstrates a working knowledge of procedures, service techniques, and regulatory standards necessary to install, inspect, troubleshoot, repair, and perform preventive maintenance, incoming inspections, and modifications on medical equipment, non-medical equipment, and communications equipment.
Requires strong analytical and organizational skills in order to investigate, analyze, and respond appropriately to equipment related problems that affect patient care and hospital service needs.
Demonstrates strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written, in order to establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships with all internal and external customers.
Performs other duties and tasks, as directed by the Biomedical Engineering management staff.
