    Description

    Registered Nurse - Behavioral Health

    We are actively hiring and accepting applications in the Charlottesville, VA area for this position. Experienced nurses in behavioral health, counseling, intake, medication side effects, PTSD, psychosomatic medication interactions, suicide and self-harm risk assessment, or therapeutic nurse/patient relationships are strongly encouraged to apply.

    About the Role

    This is a full-time, part-time, or per diem opportunity with flexible shift schedules (day, night, and mid-shift) at an academic medical center with cross-training capabilities.

    Responsibilities

    1. Conduct initial patient assessments and develop individualized care plans in consultation with a multidisciplinary team.
    2. Administer medications as prescribed and monitor for efficacy and potential side effects.
    3. Provide emotional and psychological support to patients and their families using evidence-based therapeutic communication techniques.
    4. Facilitate group therapy sessions and educational workshops on mental health and well-being topics.
    5. Collaborate with healthcare professionals for holistic patient care, including discharge planning and aftercare support.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or higher from an accredited program.
    • Active and unencumbered Registered Nurse license.
    • At least 1 year of experience in behavioral health settings, preferably inpatient or outpatient environments.
    • Strong understanding of psychotropic medications, their side effects, and proper administration protocols.
    • Demonstrated ability to maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards as outlined by the American Nurses Association (ANA).
