    Sheetmetal Helper


    Assists Sheet Metal Journeyman to fabricate, assemble, install and repair sheet metal products and equipment.


    TYPICAL DUTIES AND REQUIREMENTS

    1. Select gauge and type of sheet metal according to instructions.
    2. Locate and mark dimensions and reference lines on sheet metal.
    3. May set up and operate fabricating machines such as shears, brakes, bending rolls, and punch and drill presses to cut, band, and straighten sheet metal.
    4. May shape metal over anvils, blocks, or forms using hammer.
    5. Set up and assist Sheet Metal Worker in soldering and welding equipment to join together sheet metal parts.
    6. May smooth seams joints, or burred surfaces using files and portable grinder or buffer.
    7. Load, transport, unload, and furnish experienced craft workers with materials, tools, equipment, and supplies.
    8. Clean work area and restock supplies and materials as necessary.
    9. May assist in lifting, positioning, and securing of materials and workpieces during installation.
    10. May perform minor maintenance or cleaning activities of journeyman's tools and equipment.
    11. Perform other routine duties as directed by experienced craft person.
    12. Understand shop math.
    13. Work skillfully with tools, metals, and machines.
    14. Work within precise limits and standards of accuracy.
    15. Lift objects of varying weights.
    16. Perform work from scaffolding, ladders, or other structures.
    17. Perform work overhead, beneath structure, and from various other positions as required by working conditions.
    18. Repeat tasks of short duration according to a set procedure.
    19. Reach for, handle, and manipulate objects.

    Physically, workers must be able to: Stand or walk for long periods; use arms and hands to reach for, handle, and manipulate objects; lift and carry materials weighing 50 to 100 pounds; climb up and down ladders, scaffolds, and other objects and carry tools and equipment; stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl, and see (naturally or with correction). High school diploma preferred and on-the-job training required to attain journeyman status. Ivey is an AA/EEO Employer.
