    Overall responsibilities

    As a Bridge Engineer at SYSTRA IBT, you will be required to perform engineering calculations and to check and assist in the production of bridge documentation in the form of reports and drawings with guidance from senior engineering staff.

    Role and responsibilities
    • Interpret design criteria, reports and plans.
    • Complete detailed analysis of structures.
    • Prepare professional design calculations in accordance with design criteria, relevant codes (CAN/CSA, AASHTO) and engineering principles.
    • Prepare sketches documenting design.
    • Coordinate drafting of plans with CAD technicians.
    • Review and provide mark-ups of plans and reports to achieve a high quality of project documentation.
    • It may be necessary to obtain a professional engineering license in one or more states or provinces .
    • Other related tasks.
    Qualifications

    Education: B.S. Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent, M.S. in Civil Engineering preferred

    Years of experience: 5 to 10 years of experience in relevant bridge engineering.

    Technical competencies:
    • Segmental bridge design and construction.
    • Experience in elevated guideway and cable-stayed bridge design is an asset.
    • Post-tensioning design and detailing.
    • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
    Personal & soft skills:
    • Outstanding attention to detail and analytical ability.
    • Ability to manage multiple tasks and timelines.
    • Ability to work effectively with limited supervision.
    • Willingness and availability to travel as needed.
    • Clearly and concisely communicate technical details and concepts.
    Employment terms and conditions

    Contract nature: Full-time on an at-will basis

    Reports to: Management Team

    Remuneration: $75,000 to $110,000 USD per year

    ABOUT OLYMPIA, WA

    Olympia, WA is in the heart of the Pacific Northwest. It is located a short drive from Olympic Nation Forest and Mt. Rainier Nation Park in addition to Capital Forest and all the other state and local trails, beaches, and parks. The IBT office is located in historic downtown Olympia on the Puget Sound waterfront next to Percival Landing and the Port of Olympia. The office is adjacent to the local farmers market, a variety of restaurants, the Puget sound boardwalk, multiple parks, the State Capital Grounds, Capital Lake, and Marathon Park. Some of our amenities include parking, indoor bicycle lockers, showers, and views of the waterfront from the office.

    Olympia is part of the broader Puget Sound area located on the South end of the I-5 corridor. Olympia is a 1 hour drive, pending on traffic, to SeaTac International Airport with directs flights to many major US cities and direct flights to Asia and Europe. Seattle is an additional 15-minute drive North from the airport and Portland OR is a 1.5-hour drive South of Olympia. With the combination of forest, mountains, national parks, the Puget Sound, and the Pacific Ocean, it is an ideal location to live for outdoor enthusiast and nature lovers. It is also a great place to raise a family.

    Olympia has a long history of highly technical bridge design. The first cable-stayed bridge built in the United States, the Pasco Kennewick Bridge, was designed in Olympia, WA. This historic achievement coupled with a strong Washington DOT design bureau has attracted many highly technical bridge designers to the area leading to a robust bridge engineering market locally.
