    Microsoft 365 substrate is critical to Microsoft's cloud strategy and it is experiencing tremendous growth, with 120 million monthly active commercial users and hundreds of millions of consumer users.

    The Substrate is a massively distributed cloud service with O(exabyte) data handled by O(100K) servers in O(100) data-centers around the entire globe, and it's a joint effort across Office 365 teams as well as Windows and Bing.


    We are the O365 substrate productivity intelligence team, and we are building a platform that empowers first and third-party developers and data scientist to build new breed of intelligent applications without compromising O365 data privacy and compliance standards.

    O365 MyAnalytics, Workplace Analytics and Bing apps are examples of consumers of the platform. The platform also enables Machine learning solutions over O365 substrate data.


    We are looking for a Principal Software Engineer with a passion for solving hard problems, big data, ML Ops (Machine Learning operations), real time event processing, and building software at very large scale.

    Responsibilities

    Lead and Develop MLOps systems for Office AI.
    Lead and Develop online and offline tools to automatically onboard and ship inference workflows to production.
    Lead and Improve AI online experimentation agility by applying new approaches and industry innovations.
    Accountable for design, implementation, quality, live site & success of customers.

    Build highly scalable solutions to cater to the needs of vast customer base eagerly waiting to utilize the Azure platform for their business demands.

    Establish KPIs and successfully drive execution through collaboration and partnership with PM team and partners, delivering an end to end customer focused innovation.

    Passion for delivering scalable solutions through a diverse team of engineers.
    Qualifications

    Required/Minimum Qualifications

    Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    OR equivalent experience.
    3+ years of experience leading a large feature crew developers.

    Additional or Preferred Qualifications
    Experience in Object oriented programming like C# / Java or Python
    Experience working on Azure or similar cloud platforms.
    Experience working with Big Data or ML platform tooling.
    Experience building and managing highly scalable web services and Big data systems.
    Good grasp of System design and Patterns.
    Good grasp of data structures, algorithms, programming patterns, and solving complex problems.
    Familiarity with Apache spark, databricks, Azure HDInsights or Synapse or Azure ML systems.
    Familiarity with Extract Transform Load (ETL) Pipelines, Data Modeling, Data Engineering and past ML experience is a plus.
    Technical across a broad set of service technologies.

    You can come up to speed on new products and technologies quickly and have a passion for continuing to grow in the technical dimension.

    Software Engineering IC- The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $133,600 - $256,800 per year.

    There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $173,200 - $282,200 per year.
