The Assistant Department Manager supports the department manager in overseeing building code compliance permit processing inspections and enforcement of construction regulations This role involves plan review inspections code compliance enforcement and supervision of staff within the building department Responsibilities include supervising staff ensuring adherence to local state and federal building codes collaborating with stakeholders to maintain safety quality standards assisting in resolving disputes related to code violations permits applications guiding junior staff providing constructive technical feedback managing priorities under deadline pressure maintaining records reports documentation coordinating with other city departments monitoring training team performance staying updated on changes in building codes laws best practices representing the department in meetings working effectively from a professional office field work site setting performing tasks at a desk computer phone standard office equipment climate-controlled office environment regular communication with team members clients stakeholders sitting for long durations occasional standing walking bending lifting materials up to pounds travel on foot across uneven rugged obstructed terrain exposure varying weather conditions insects animals natural hazards physical requirements ability lift carry between lbs equipment samples distances stand walk drive operate lab field equipment extended periods communicate verbally written formats varied environments PPE use sensory capabilities see smell observation safety purposes.
