- Collaborate with anesthesia team regarding optimum delivery of anesthetic based on clinical assessment and document requested modalities.
- Operate the equipment per departmental policy to obtain optimal results as we all learning to detect instrument malfunctions and make minor adjustments to keep in operating condition.
- Acquire basic knowledge of the following; normal brain anatomy and function, carious medication and anesthetic agents used during monitoring procedures.
- Keep labs fully supplied, all work-stations clean and all equipment in working order.
- Able to recognize discrepancies between patient?s ordered testing and their diagnosis.
- Perform portable testing, particularly evoked potentials in the intensive care unit and the operating room with only telemedicine supervision while maintaining the maximum safety for patients.
- Transport equipment between facilities in a safe and secure manner.
- Understand thoroughly various disease states and factors that relate to them, various medication effects, clinical changes or complications to ensure high technical quality.
- Monitor other physiological parameters during testing as described in the departmental policy
- Exercise judgment during testing or intraoperative monitoring for the need of the oversight clinical neurophysiologist or physician?s intervention.
- Ability to recognize real-time changes in data and report changes to the oversight clinical neurophysiologist.
- Perform all necessary troubleshooting in situations of suboptimal results prior to and during any diagnostic testing procedure or intraoperative procedure.
- Recognize artifacts; differentiate them from evoked potential patterns and take appropriate steps to eliminate them.
- Ability to adapt to change in the work environment, manage competing demands and deal with frequent change, delays or unexpected events.
- Communicate with attending physician in a timely manner determining a plan for which modalities to be performed to procedure. Document any request made by surgeon according to departmental policy.
- Complete all necessary electronic workflow in accordance with the departmental policies ensuring all data is secure and accessible post-operatively.
- Apply suitable electrodes on predetermined measured positions on the patient's head, trunk, and extremities. Select predetermined electrode combination; check their performance as well as adjusting for non-standard montages as needed.
- Obtain standard recordings, report findings to the oversight clinical neurophysiologist.
- Display and label waveforms for marking, measuring and calculating information such as latencies, amplitudes, and conduction times following established guidelines and protocols.
- Bachelor's degree in science related field, preferably Neuroscience.
- 25% travel for coverage, not limited to distance or length of stay.

Description
UPMC Procirca is looking for a full time Associate Surgical Neurophysiologist to join their dedicated team, supporting Procirca sites around Pittsburgh.
Healthcare professional responsible for providing real-time multi-modality neurophysiological monitoring of the peripheral and central nervous system in the diagnostic lab, intensive care unit (ICU), and operating room.
All work will be done under the general supervision of a department supervisor and/or the clinical neurophysiologist on call, all while working within the established department guidelines/policies/procedures.
