POSITION SUMMARY:
The University of San Francisco is in the second year of its most ambitious fundraising
campaign. The USF Campaign has a $500M goal that will vastly enhance the University's
presence and scholarship in the arts, health and life sciences, and entrepreneurism, as well
as continue to provide access and opportunity for our highly diverse population of students.
Reporting to the Senior Director, Major Gifts, the Director of Development, School of Nursing
and Health Professions will play an integral role in this process at an exciting time in the
With over 1,900 identified campaign prospects valued at $1 million or more, and more than
800 categorized as highly likely to contribute major gifts to USF, the Director will focus on
identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and securing 5- and 6-figure major gift donors from this
pool. Additionally, they will strategically position the highest-rated prospects for campaign
commitments within the next 24-36 months as we progress into the public phase of the
campaign.
Working closely with the Senior Director, Major Gifts, the Director of Development will
oversee the fundraising strategy for the School of Nursing and Health Professions in
collaboration with the Dean. The Director will manage relationships and secure support from
donors capable of making gifts of $25,000 or more, with an initial fundraising goal of
$500,000 in the first year, escalating in subsequent years. Furthermore, the Director will
coordinate the involvement of campus leadership in SONHP fundraising efforts.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Manage a portfolio of prospects located regionally and nationally, each with the capacity to donate $250,000 or more.
Conduct a minimum of 6-10 significant prospect/donor visits per month.
Qualifies/disqualifies 26-32 major gift prospects annually.
Cultivates and solicits current use and endowment gifts directly, including proposal development.
Conduct 15-24 solicitations annually to meet fundraising targets.
Develop ongoing personal relationships with prospects and internal stakeholders to deepen engagement and secure revenue for the School of Nursing and Health Professions, including support for the new Simulation Lab and other school-related spaces within the Health & Life Sciences campus.
Collaborate with the Associate Vice President of Development, the Senior Director, Major Gifts, and the Dean of the School of Nursing and Health Professions to devise a three-year strategy aimed at substantially increasing contributions to the School of Nursing and Health Professions and other health-related units on campus.
This strategy will include securing major gifts from non-alumni and parents.20% Leadership and Collaboration
Collaborate with key stakeholders, including SONHP faculty and staff, on development activities and communications for the school.
Partner with Corporation and Foundation Relations, Gift Planning, and Annual Fund teams to achieve annual and campaign development goals for SONHP.
Potentially supervise an Assistant or Associate level fundraiser in the future, following the expansion of the development division in preparation for the next campaign.
15% Additional DutiesManage the Dean's Circle for the School of Nursing and Health Professions, including identifying and recruiting committee members, supporting meeting planning, and managing and nurturing relationships with committee members.
Attend School of Nursing and Health Professions Alumni Advisory Board meetings to provide fundraising updates and to partner with the Board on major fundraising initiativesStay informed about programs, faculty/research initiatives, and student initiatives within the School of Nursing and Health Professions, as well as across the University and at cohort Universities.
Undertake special projects related to the campaign and development division as assigned by the Associate Vice President.QUALIFICATIONS:
A minimum of five years of progressive and successful development experience in major gifts, preferably in healthcare and/or higher education.
Demonstrated ability to build rapport with prospects and donors and successfully guide them through the moves management cycle.
Excellent written and oral communication skills, including proposal writing and the ability to deliver a compelling case for support.
Ability to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to develop and deliver innovative ideas and programs.
Commitment to appropriate use of sensitive, confidential constituent data and familiarity with relevant privacy laws.
Demonstrated time management, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Ability to travel and work weekend/evening hours as required.
