Job Summary: The Elementary STEM Teacher will collaborate with grade-level teachers

(grades 3, 4, and 5) around the science curriculum. They will co-plan each unit with the grade-
level teachers so that some lessons are facilitated by the STEM Teacher and some by the

grade-level teachers. Specifically, the STEM Teacher will facilitate one science lesson per
week per teacher. The STEM Teacher will also design curricular extensions that will make the
science lessons relevant to the Nantucket community. They will reach out to key community
stakeholders and arrange for guest speakers and field trips.
Minimum Requirements:
● Experience in elementary science teaching required.
● Knowledge of Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks for Science and NGSS
● Teaching position requires a BA or BS, MA certification or the ability to be certified in MA
Ideal Candidate:
● Passion for teaching science
● Strong knowledge of the science and engineering practices
● Confidence with elementary math pedagogy
● Curriculum writing experience.
● Ability to collaborate with teachers and administrators.
Essential Functions:
● Coordinate with grade level teachers (grades 3, 4, and 5) to determine which lessons
and hands-on experiences within a unit the STEM Teacher will teach/support.
● Plan and facilitate lessons for each grades 3, 4 and 5 class on a weekly basis.
● Design science lessons that extend the learning to the Nantucket community, including
guest speakers and field trips.
● Collaborate with the STEM Director

● Setup materials for grade-level teachers (on science carts) to support science in the
classroom.
● Inventory and organize science materials.
● Push-in to grade level classrooms to support teachers and students with engaging in the
science standards and practices.
● Support with fifth grade MCAS preparation (e.g., review content from previous years and
format of test)
● Able to complete duties and professional responsibilities determined by administration.
