    Description of Organization: Founded in 2000, The Lionheart School is a small, non-profit private school serving school-age children with autism and other disorders of relating and communicating. Our mission is to provide a developmentally appropriate program for children who need a specialized learning environment and therapeutic interventions to excel academically and socially.

    Description of Position: Lionheart is currently searching for a Special Needs Teacher. We are considering experienced teachers with middle school/high school-age students. The responsibilities and tasks for this position are as follows:
    • Assume the responsibilities of a lead teacher in a classroom of 6-8 children (often with the help of one or more support staff).
    • Develop individual education plans (IEP) to address the academic needs of children with social-communicative challenges.
    • Prepare and implement daily assignments, weekly lesson plans, and weekly notes for the classroom, which are tailored to meet the goals of student IEPs.
    • Meet and communicate with therapists, parents, and other staff to coordinate student educational plans and activities.
    • Maintain and update progress reports and academic files on students as needed.
    • Represent the school at school events, conferences, workshops, and presentations.
    • Attend weekly staff meetings and teacher/therapist team meetings.

    Qualifications:     The skills and experience necessary for this position are as follows:
    • A valid teaching credential for the state of Georgia.
    • A bachelor's level degree in a relevant field or specialty.
    • At least two years of recent full-time experience working with children on basic skills development (including reading and math).
    • Experience using a developmental approach to working with children.
    • Experience working with a special-needs population.
    • Highly organized and self-directed.
    • Basic computer proficiency; some knowledge of technology teaching aids (ideal).
    • Strong ability to collaborate with others in work environment/task completion.

    Compensation:     The salary for this position will be commensurate with experience but highly competitive.
