    Default job background
    Description

The Henry Ford Medical Group in Detroit, Michigan seeks a medical physicist for the Division of Imaging Physics in the Department of Radiology.

The division currently has 11 physicists, all of whom have subspecialty areas of responsibility.

The responsibilities of the physics team include working closely with radiologists and other clinicians in all imaging modalities and managing radiation safety concerns for the entire Henry Ford Health system.

This includes advising on the use and maintenance of imaging systems such that the technique factors, dose, image processing methods, and image quality are consistent with clinical needs.

The position's responsibilities will also include the development and maintenance of all quality control and clinical imaging protocols in conjunction with the radiologist and technologist staff.

In addition, the position requires teaching of radiology residents, physics residents, technologists, and allied health personnel regarding all aspects of imaging physics and radiation safety.

The Division of Imaging Physics is part of the Henry Ford Medical Group, which is part of the larger Henry Ford Health - one of the country's largest health care systems and a national leader in clinical care, research, and education.

Our system includes the 1,200 physicians and scientists of the Henry Ford Medical Group, seven hospitals, Health Alliance Insurance Plan, over 40 primary care centers, and many other health-related entities throughout Southeast Michigan.

The flagship Henry Ford Hospital is a large multi-specialty academic practice in Southeastern Michigan.

The Detroit campus hospital is an active Level I Trauma and tertiary/quaternary care center for neurology/neurosurgery, structural heart disease, pulmonary medicine, orthopedics, oncology, organ transplant (including kidney, liver, heart, lung, and multi-visceral), gastrointestinal disease, urology, and cardiovascular disease, amongst others.

The Detroit campus is the site of the new Henry Ford Cancer Institute, housing state-of-the-art imaging equipment and cancer treatment specialties.

The campus is also in the initial stages for expansion and the construction of a new 17-story hospital building, which will transform Henry Ford Health and bring a wealth of new facilities and equipment to the flagship site.

These services, combined with an active primary care base, translate into a diverse array of radiological exams with a broad spectrum of pathology.

The system currently performs over 1.5 million imaging examinations per year across over 400 units of imaging equipment in all modalities.

The minimum requirements for the position are a Ph.
    D. or M.S. degree in a physical science, two years of clinical experience, and board certification or eligibility by the ABR.

The successful candidate must have good communication and teaching skills and should be able to provide support in all aspects of imaging physics and radiation safety.

The ideal candidate will have experience working with all imaging modalities, though the final job responsibilities within the group will depend on the applicant's previous experience.

Active involvement in the imaging physics community through participation in radiology and physics societies (e.g. AAPM, RSNA, SNMMI, ACR, SIIM, SPIE, etc.) is also desired.
