    • Logistics:
    • Dates: TBD
    • Location: Multiple
    • Shifts: 10:30am - 5:30pm (includes break for lunch)
    • Transportation: car or Amtrak (7:15am from NYC, 6:35pm from starting origin, returning to NYC @ 9:15pm). Uber from train station to event. The client would cover all transportation costs
    • Roles:
    • Supervising Attorney (top priority)
    • Experienced immigration attorney able to answer questions of application preparers as they complete asylum applications, and provide final review of I-589 submission packets, including potentially change of venue & change of address forms. One day per week
    • Clinic Design:
    • This is a pro se, pro bono asylum clinic for residents of the four NYC-funded hotel/shelters in the Capital Region. All clients sign limited-scope agreements, which are held by our collaborating partner & subcontractor, Immigrant ARC. Immigrant ARC's legal liability insurance covers work completed at the clinics. Clients move through the clinic over the course of two appointments:
    • The first appointment involves a basic credible fear screening administered by a nonlegal volunteer and overseen by a supervising attorney. If the client is determined to have a claim for asylum, the nonlegal volunteer then begins completing the first 4 pages of the asylum application with them
    • The second appointment is with a volunteer who has some asylum experience, either as an attorney, paralegal, or accredited representative. They work with the client to complete the second part of the application, craft their claim & articulate the nexus. At the conclusion of this appointment, the application is finalized complete with certificates of service, copies for the applicant, and changes of address if necessary.
    • In-person interpreters are present at the clinics to support clients and volunteers. This is achieved through a mix of volunteer and professional paid interpreters
    • Child care is available to parents at the clinic through a professional nanny service
    • Food is available to clients, staff and volunteers
