    Marine Interdiction Agent Job Description

    Air and Marine Operations (AMO) offers a unique opportunity for Merchant Mariners to join the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) as a Marine Interdiction Agent.

    This career ladder position provides a chance to work with an elite team of highly trained professionals, protecting America's borders while facilitating lawful international travel and trade.

    Salary and Benefits

    As a Marine Interdiction Agent, you can earn up to $96,116 per year based on your qualifications and duty location.

    The salary range is as follows:

    • GS-11: $73,939 - $96,116

    You may also be eligible for Recruitment Incentives and other benefits such as health insurance, annual leave, and participation in the Thrift Savings Plan.

    Duty Locations

    After successful completion of the pre-employment process, you will be assigned to one of the following locations:

    • Southeast Region: Fort Lauderdale, Miami, Marathon, FL; Fajardo, Mayaguez, Ponce, San Juan PR; Saint Thomas, VI
    • Northern Region: Bellingham, WA; Port Huron, MI
    • Southwest Region: Brownsville, TX

    Duties and Responsibilities

    As a Marine Interdiction Agent, you will perform marine-based law enforcement operations, including:

    • Monitoring behavior patterns and activities of suspect persons, vehicles, or vessels
    • Interpreting radar data to calculate intercepts and track vessels
    • Searching persons, vessels, baggage, and cargo for contraband or weapons
    • Collecting, refining, and analyzing strategic and tactical intelligence

    Qualifications

    To qualify for this position, you must have a valid Merchant Mariner Credential and meet one of the following requirements:

    • One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as controlling/commanding law enforcement scenes, conducting investigative inquiries, utilizing surveillance equipment, writing arrest reports, and assisting government attorneys
    • Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree, three full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree, or LL.M.
    • Combining experience and education: a combination of successfully completed post-bachelors' education and experience

    Other Requirements

    In addition to the above qualifications, you must:

    • Be a U.S. Citizen
    • Have had primary U.S. residency for at least three of the last five years
    • Not exceed the maximum age requirement (40 years old), unless you are currently serving or have previously served in a federal civilian law enforcement position covered by Title 5 U.S.C. 8336(c) or Title 5 U.S.C. 8412(d)

    Training and Travel

    This position requires training and may involve travel for operational needs.
