    Responsibilities

    The Phlebotomist will assist the HarmonyCares Medical Group (HCMG) Physician in the delivery of primary health care and patient care management in a residential setting.

    • Serves patients by identifying the best method for retrieving blood samples and other specimens for laboratory testing, and performing screening procedures
    • Verifies test requisitions by comparing information with the clinician order and bringing discrepancies to the attention of Practice Manager
    • Verifies patient identification and explains sampling procedures to patients
    • Obtains blood specimens by performing venipunctures and finger sticks
    • Maintains specimen integrity by using aseptic technique, following department procedures and observing isolation procedures
    • Track collected specimens by initialing, dating and noting times of collection and maintaining daily tallies of collections performed
    • Maintains safe, secure, healthy work environment by following standards and procedures and complying with legal regulations
    • Serves and protects the hospital or healthcare facility community by adhering to professional standards, institutional policies and procedures, federal, state and local requirements
    • Takes vital signs as needed
    • Labels, stores and properly packages specimens for delivery to lab
    • Logs patient information for accurate processing and testing
    • Logs information in compliance with Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) standards

    Qualifications

    Required Knowledge, Skills and Experience

    • High School Diploma
    • Phlebotomist Certification
    • CPR Certification
    • Must maintain a valid driver's license and good driving record
    • Adept at venipuncture, phlebotomy and finger sticks
    • Excellent verbal and written communication and documentation skills
    • Familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR)
    • Experienced in appropriate IT technology such as IPad and GPS
    • Interpersonal skills and compassion
    • Ability to work independently, analyze information, think critically and problem solve
    • Attention to detail
    • Procedural and organizational skills
    • Ability to drive up to 150 miles daily in urban and/or rural setting
    • Full range body motion including handling/lifting patients
    • Ability to lift/carry items weighing up to 50 lbs
    • Ability to read and understand road maps
    • Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time

    Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Experience

    • Six months of experience in patient care, preferably geriatric care
