    Job Overview
    The Communications Director will serve as a strategic advisor to the local leadership of

    Melrose Wakefield & Lawrence Memorial Hospitals and their respective ambulatory markets, as well as support

    Tufts Medicine Strategic Communications.

    This role will report to the Tufts Medicine VP of Communications and will work to support a system communication strategy.

    This person will

    lead all entity-specific communications collaborating

    closely with colleagues across the Communications Team to ensure alignment and support of system mission, vision, and values. This role also serves as the liaison/coordinator to corporate marketing for entity marketing and media strategy. Duties include leading external engagement plans,

    Board communications, coordinating communication

    events for the entity and its executive leaders and local media relations,

    including partnering with government relations.

    This role will

    also provide oversight and direction

    for the internal communications lead at entity and at the system level to drive internal engagement and communications.

    Skills:
    Strong written and verbal communication, collaboration, and employee engagement skills are required
    Ability to proactively plan and prioritize communication milestones, mediums, vehicles, and priorities in alignment with strategy and to drive towards brand, entity, outside stakeholder and care team engagement goals
    Adept at storytelling and communications, media relations and management, and crises communications
    Ability to work across an organization with excellent communication and customer service orientation
    Interest in evaluating and improving upon existing processes and developing/implementing new processes where appropriate
    Must demonstrate the ability to manage sensitive/confidential/proprietary information
    Must be a self-starter with the ability to independently identify opportunities, solutions and resolve challenges
    Demonstrated ability to deliver impactful results
    Job Description

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Master's degree in a related field

    AND
    Five (5) years of relevant work experience


    OR
    Bachelor's degree in a related field


    AND
    Seven (7) years of relevant work experience.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Successful history of working effectively in a complex, matrixed and collaborative environment that expects and promotes teamwork.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Provides communication support both internally and externally to executive leaders, practice/research/education leaders, administration, and board members in support of communicating brand accretive goals, strategies, and initiatives.
    • Establishes and maintains strong relationships with both internal and external partners and stakeholders.
    • Develops, writes, and edits presentations, talking points, blogs, Q&A's, and more, especially for senior executives.
    • Develops new and creative ways to deliver messages through video and other emerging digital channels.
    • Helps to optimize operational performance and efficiency.
    • Serves as a thought partner and project liaison outside the department at all levels, helping to proactively identify and communicate business issues, coordinate project activities and briefs, streamline approaches/methodologies, and share best practices.
    • Fosters a culture of positive system teamwork and transparency that drives excellent service, quality, diversity, an engaging work environment and overall continuous improvement mindset.
    • Serves as change agent, championing agile ways of thinking as one system and one team to enable teams and many stakeholder groups to succeed.
    • Drives excellence in communication (verbal, written and presentations), communication planning and strategic advisor to the CEO. This includes external thought leadership and planning executive visibility.
    • Supports department and institutional projects from a communications perspective including talent acquisition.

    Physical Requirements:

    • This is largely a sedentary role, which involves sitting most of the time, but may involve movements such as walking, standing, reaching, ascending/descending stairs, and operating office equipment.
    • Frequently required to speak, hear, communicate, and exchange information.
    • Ability to see and read computer displays, read fine print, and/or normal type size print and distinguish letters, numbers and symbols.
    • Requires manual dexterity using fine hand manipulation to operate computer keyboard.

    Job Profile Summary

    This role focuses on the marketing activities of the organization, including promoting and marketing healthcare services to the community and supporting business growth by disseminating information that promotes a favorable view of the organization.

    In addition, this role focuses on performing the following Marketing Leadership duties:
    Controls, directs, and participates in the activities of the organization through a hierarchy of managers and supervisors.

    Responsibilities also include long-term strategic planning, determining the policies of the organization, and allocating its resources and making decisions regarding organization growth and diversification to accomplish entity's vision.

    A management role that supervises employees focusing on tactical, operational activities within a specified area, with the majority of time spent overseeing area of responsibility, planning, prioritizing and/or directing the responsibilities of employees.

    Goal achievement is typically accomplished through performance of direct and/or indirect reports. A role that directs a department or small unit that includes multiple teams led by managers and/or team Leaders.


    Responsibilities typically include:

    ownership of short to mid-term (1-3 years) execution of functional strategy and the operational direction of the Department, problems faced are often complex and require extensive investigation and analysis, and requires ability to influence others to accept practices and approaches, and ability to communicate and influence executive leadership.
