    Job Description


    The Health Information Systems Specialists is responsible for working with HIM staff and the Information Services Department to analyze, develop, implement, and maintain processes related to computer systems.

    Assists with identifying and resolving work flow issues and managing the HIM electronic systems for the department, training HIM staff when new processes are implemented.

    Assist with training HIM staff on new applications/upgrades to systems.

    Assists with performing qualitative and quantitative reviews for completeness of clinical documentation according to the medical staff bylaws, Joint Commission, CMS, RAC, and other regulatory agencies.

    Assists with conducting ongoing medical record audits to monitor compliance with regulatory agency guidelines. Compiles and aggregates data. Assists with monitoring and investigating electronic alerts for unauthorized access to electronic records. Assists with processing portal request ad providing portal access to physicians' office staff, healthcare vendors, and others, as needed.

    Assists with the maintenance of the master patient index to ensure the accurate and timely merging of duplicate accounts, as needed.



    Requirements


    Associate Degree in Health Information Management preferred or Two (2) years vocational, technical or college training or 2-3 years' experience in qualitative analysis or similar position.

    Knowledge in medical terminology and federal and state regulations for medical record documentation.

    Minimum of two (2) years of previous experience in hospital health information department or similar medical office setting or completion of two years training in an approved HIM program.

    Previous experience with electronic health record required. Previous experience with computerized deficiency system preferred. Previous experience with conducting medical record audits preferred. Registered Health Information Technician or Administrator preferred.
    Computer, specialized software packages, telephone, fax, copier. Proficiency with multiple computers systems. Must communicate effectively, clearly, and concisely in written and oral formats. Must possess problem solving skills, professionalism, reporting, and process management skills. Must be highly organized and detail oriented.

    Must possess excellent time-management skills and the ability to multitask, perform and prioritize duties in a timely manner without reminders and with limited supervision.

    Basic understanding and experience with McKesson electronic medical records.

    Manual dexterity and visual acuity necessary to utilize the PC, calculator, filing and proofing documents; ability to sit for prolonged periods of time; verbal communication and hearing ability to communicate with a multitude of customers.

    Must be able to routinely lift and carry charts weighing 10 lbs. Walking, bending, squatting, stretching, carrying, pushing and overhead use of arms required. Ability to meet the attendance requirements of the job.
