- Prepare game fields for practices and games inncluding but not limited to: Mound/plate repair, dragging and raking infield clay surfaces, watering infield clay, chalk/paint foul lines, maintain bullpens, lay out and paint lines and logos on fields.
- Mow, edge, weed-eat, blow athletic fields and surrounding complexes.
- Apply granular and liquid fertilizers and other material as directed.
- Weed control as needed in assigned areas.
- Mulch assigned areas as needed.
- Operate all assigned equipment and tools properly and with care.
- Wash equipment and tools as necessary and store in proper location.
- Ensure all equipment is operating correctly and communicate malfunctions to supervisor or mechanic.
- Wear all proper PPE as required by OSHA and UNC Greensboro.
- Communicate with supervisor, co-workers, coaches and other Athletics staff to ensure duties, needs and approved requests are met in a timely manner.
- Record all pesticide/herbicide/fungicide usage in log book provided.
- Keep accurate inventory of field materials and tools.
- Working knowledge of plant maintenance procedures used in landscape installation and grounds maintenance.
- Ability to observe plants and identify plants and plant problems, assess condition and health of plants.
- Ability to respond to standard problems, and assist or make recommendations for solutions to non-standard problems.
- Ability to perform a variety of routine and nonrecurring tasks.
- Ability to determine appropriate tools, equipment and vehicles.
- Ability to administer safe application of various chemicals and nutrient supplements and the use of equipment to perform the tasks.
- Working knowledge of the different species in the geographical area to which assigned, as well as an understanding of common diseases, nutritional issues and pests that pose a threat to the trees' health.

Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit
The Grounds section of Facilities Operations at UNCG is a service organization comprised of skilled professionals dedicated to providing the highest quality in grounds planning, installation, landscape maintenance, and improvements.
Grounds management is provided to 266 acres including intramural and intercollegiate athletic sports complexes, sports fields, landscape maintenance, integrated turf pest management, and the tree management program.
Position SummaryTo provide high quality Division 1 service and maintenance to the sports fields of UNC Greensboro.
Position will be responsible for the maintenance, repair, and game day preparation of sports fields, including clay management, turf management, field marking and general landscape maintenance on the Athletics facilities on the campus of UNC Greensboro.
Primary duties and responsibilities consist of the following:
45% - Sports field management
25% - Landscape maintenance
15% - Equipment Management and Safety Management
10% - Communications / Customer Service
5% - Records Management
Minimum Qualifications
High school or General Educational Development diploma and two years of progressive experience in horticultural work; or associate's degree in agriculture and natural resources, greenhouse and grounds
maintenance, horticulture technology, landscape gardening or closely related field from an appropriately accredited institution; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
