- Validate all prior authorization requests, including but not limited to prescriber and member information, level of review required, and appropriate clinical guidelines
- Understand and apply clinical criteria for processing prior authorization requests in a timely manner
- Proactively obtain clinical information from prescribers or appropriate staff to ensure all aspects of clinical guidelines are addressed for pharmacist review
- Maintain patient records with strong attention to detail and confidentiality
- Establish and maintain positive and professional demeanor with communication with members, pharmacies and providers
- Adhere to all organizational policies, procedures, and HIPPA regulations
- Collaborate with prior authorization leadership to develop and implement process improvements and support long-term department needs
- Other duties or special projects may be assigned as necessary
- Knowledge of pharmacy practices, procedures and precedents; ability to read and understand pharmaceutical information
- Working knowledge of drug dosage forms, drug strength, generic & trade name equivalent
- Demonstrate knowledge of Federal & State laws/regulations regarding provisions of pharmaceutical services
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize work
- Customer service and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated courteous and professional behavior
- Must be organized, detail-oriented and have excellent communication skills (listening, verbal, written, grammar)
- Active National Pharmacy Technician Certification
- Pharmacy Benefit Manager (PBM), managed care and/or other pharmacy experience preferred
- Working knowledge of the healthcare industry
- HIPAA trained and /or the ability to work with and protect extremely confidential patient and employee information
- High school diploma or equivalent
- In an 8 hour day the employee may be asked to lift/carry 20lbs.
- In an 8 hour day the employee may stand/walk approximately 1 hour.
- In an 8 hour day the employee sits approximately 7 hours.

General Function:
The Clinical Technician assists the clinical pharmacist in all aspects of the prior authorization process. Technician evaluates and authorizes approval of prior authorization pharmacy requests from prescribers received by telephone and/or facsimile using client clinical criteria.
