    Description

Mass Spectrometry Scientist, or Senior Scientist

AOA Dx is developing the next frontier in early-stage cancer detection through its pioneering work in glycolipids and proprietary biomarker technology. Our revolutionary tumor marker ganglioside platform, GlycoLocateTM, is paving the way for life-saving early cancer detection. In a first of its kind, AOA Dx is developing AKRIVIS GDTM, an early-stage liquid biopsy test for ovarian cancer.

We are seeking a talented and experienced Mass Spectrometry Scientist with a PhD in chemistry, biochemistry, or a related field. In this position, you will be responsible for running, troubleshooting, and independently designing and performing high throughput lipidomics experiments on our state-of-the-art LC-MS/MS and HPLC instrument(s). This role requires a deep understanding of mass spectrometry, HPLC, large scale "omics" analysis methods, and hands-on instrumentation experience in a mass spectrometry-focused lab environment. This position is open at both the Scientist and Senior Scientist level. Role designation will be based on experience of individual candidate.

    Responsibilities:

    • Independently design and execute high throughput experiments examining lipid content of serum using a tandem MS platform for either biological characterization or analytical platform development
    • Independently analyze lipidomic data to draw conclusions on either cancer biology questions or analytical platform development
    • Independently design method development experiments for analyte separation, detection and quantification using HPLC with ELSD
    • Independently plan quarterly goals, metrics and milestones and be able to track to those over time
    • Work with other scientists, research associates and technicians to plan and divide up work on a weekly basis
    • Present findings and progress to a diverse range of individuals in team meetings
    • Operate, maintain and optimize HPLC-MS instruments with precision and accuracy
    • Troubleshoot instrument issues, calibrate instrumentation and perform routine maintenance.
    • Maintain accurate records of experiments and results using an electronic lab notebook
    • Contribute to the development and optimization of analytical methods.
    • Stay current with emerging trends and advancements in mass spectrometry technology.

    Qualifications:

    • PhD in Analytical chemistry, biochemistry, biology, or chemistry or related field
    • Minimum of 4+ years of hands-on experience operating and maintaining an LC-MS system and running high throughput -omics experiments (lipidomics, metabolomics or proteomics)
    • Knowledge of biological sample preparation and extraction techniques for downstream LC-MS and HPLC analysis
    • 2+ years' experience in biotech or pharma industry is preferred
    • Proficiency in HPLC-MS operation and troubleshooting.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
    • Excellent attention to detail and ability to maintain precise records.
    • Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team.

The salary range for this position is $125,000 to $145,000 per year, which factors in various geographic regions. The actual compensation and seniority level for this position will be determined based on relevant experience and qualifications.
