    Description

    The NCCAOM is seeking a consumer of acupuncture and/or Chinese herbal medicine who is committed to the growth of integrative medicine, with a specific interest in certification and credentialing, to serve as a Public Member of the NCCAOMBoard of Commissioners . Public Member Commissioners represent consumers served by the NCCAOM certificants' services.

    Expertise Needed: Public Members should not be a Licensed Acupuncturist or an NCCAOM Diplomate, nor have credentials that are like those of NCCAOM Diplomates, nor a vendor. Public Members should ideally possess the following skills and experience:

    • Previous leadership experience on a Board of Directors (profit or non-profit), and/or Board Experience
    • Financial acumen
    • Regulatory and/or policy experience (state and/or federal)
    • Knowledge of Board governance
    • Participation in strategic planning activities

    Preferred but not required:

    • Certified Association Executive (CAE) Certification
    • Familiarity with Complementary and Integrative Healthcare (CIH) and/or experience working in a Healthcare/Non-Profit field
    • Interest in building the Acupuncture profession

    Public Member Commissioners serve for a term of three years and act as agents of the NCCAOM with the following responsibilities:

    1. Serve on two or more standing committees. The committee work may include a monthly conference call and meeting preparation (and may involve occasional reimbursed travel).
    2. Attending the Winter, Summer, and Fall Board of Commissioners meetings. Meetings will be either virtual or in-person and will be multi-day as needed.
    3. Demonstrate knowledge of and support for NCCAOM certification standards and policies.
    4. Participate in CEO, self, peer-to-peer, and board assessments.
    5. All Board members should be able and willing to step into Board Officer positions.

    The estimated average time commitment of a Commissioner is ten hours per month.

    New Commissioners are expected to complete a Board orientation and become familiar with NCCAOM standards, policies, and procedures.
