GENERAL SUMMARY

Reporting to our Program Chef and Executive Chef, and as a part of our culinary team, this role involves preparing hot meals for individuals under our care (in a cafeteria-style setting) and may involve additional responsibilities in our public-facing restaurant. Cooking meats, fish, vegetables, soups, and other hot food products accurately and efficiently, as well as preparing and portioning food products before cooking are part of the duties. Additionally, tasks include food and final plate preparation, such as plating and garnishing cooked items and creating suitable garnishes for all menu items. This presents a wonderful chance for a skilled candidate to advance in their career, gain invaluable experience as a teacher and mentor, and become a member of an extraordinary organization.

ESSENTIAL TASKS

Lead by example and with a joyful attitude.
Set up and stock stations with necessary supplies.
Prepare food for service, including chopping vegetables, butchering meat, and making sauces.
Cook menu items in collaboration with the kitchen staff.
Have knowledge of the food being served, including type, name, and ingredients.
Maintain proper food handling processes to ensure safety and food quality at all times.
Meet the needs of our clients and their guests to the best of your ability.
Be able to explain who St. Matthew's House is and our mission if inquired.
Strive to provide excellent customer service.
Assist with cleaning, sanitation, and organization of kitchen equipment, ensuring cleanliness and orderliness in the workspace.
Perform additional tasks as assigned by the Head Chef, Director of Hospitality, or Culinary Program Manager.

Requirements:

Education: High school diploma or equivalent.

Experience: 2 years of practical kitchen experience. Experience in kitchen-based teaching is advantageous.

Confidentiality: Handling confidential information such as account numbers.

Mental/Visual Demand: Work involves normal mental and visual capabilities, as well as effective communication in a standard kitchen environment.

Physical Demand: Tasks include handling, feeling, and reaching with hands and arms, squatting, bending, and frequent movement. The ability to lift and move up to 30 pounds regularly is required.

Working Conditions: Expect to work in varying outdoor weather conditions. Must be open to occasional non-standard work hours like nights and weekends based on business requirements.
