Job Summary
The Nurse Manager Orthopaedic Institute, Surgical Services is responsible for managing, coordinating and monitoring the entire perioperative patient care delivery system for the Orthopaedic Institute, Surgical Services. The manager has 24-hour responsibility for administration of fiscal, materials management, regulatory and human resources management. Responsibilities include oversight over the operating room, pre-op, post-op (PACU), Anesthesia, Prepare and Environmental Services.
The duties of the Nurse Manager, OI Surgical Services include developing performance improvement goals and facilitating staff, surgeons, and anesthesia personnel toward achieving goals. The individual is responsible for fostering teamwork, establishing common goals and achieving successful goal-oriented outcomes; efficient and user-friendly scheduling practices; educational needs; recognition; patient safety, including National Patient Safety Goals, JCAHO and infection control standards; operational efficiencies; effective communication, and staff, physician and patient satisfaction. The Nurse Manager, OI Surgical Services will actively involve the Director, OI, surgeons, anesthesiologists, schedulers, EVS staff, SPD staff and the entire perioperative team to concurrently and proactively manage patient flow. Active communication and collaboration with internal, external partners of the OI is imperative to provide overall OR efficiency. The Nurse Manager will have responsibility over RN's, clinical staff, anesthesia technicians, environmental services staff (PSA), and Patient Care Assistants (PCA). The incumbent will manage surgical services in a cost-effective manner, consistent with the financial goals of the organization which will include meeting budgetary targets, productivity and inventory management. The Nurse Manager will develop systems to ensure instrumentation and equipment is readily available for surgeries. The Manager will continuously monitor services provided and collaborate with the team in developing methods to improve utilization and efficiency. The manager is responsible for carrying out the mission, vision and values of UCSF Medical Center.
