    Job Summary

    The Nurse Manager Orthopaedic Institute, Surgical Services is responsible for managing, coordinating and monitoring the entire perioperative patient care delivery system for the Orthopaedic Institute, Surgical Services. The manager has 24-hour responsibility for administration of fiscal, materials management, regulatory and human resources management. Responsibilities include oversight over the operating room, pre-op, post-op (PACU), Anesthesia, Prepare and Environmental Services.

    The duties of the Nurse Manager, OI Surgical Services include developing performance improvement goals and facilitating staff, surgeons, and anesthesia personnel toward achieving goals. The individual is responsible for fostering teamwork, establishing common goals and achieving successful goal-oriented outcomes; efficient and user-friendly scheduling practices; educational needs; recognition; patient safety, including National Patient Safety Goals, JCAHO and infection control standards; operational efficiencies; effective communication, and staff, physician and patient satisfaction. The Nurse Manager, OI Surgical Services will actively involve the Director, OI, surgeons, anesthesiologists, schedulers, EVS staff, SPD staff and the entire perioperative team to concurrently and proactively manage patient flow. Active communication and collaboration with internal, external partners of the OI is imperative to provide overall OR efficiency. The Nurse Manager will have responsibility over RN's, clinical staff, anesthesia technicians, environmental services staff (PSA), and Patient Care Assistants (PCA). The incumbent will manage surgical services in a cost-effective manner, consistent with the financial goals of the organization which will include meeting budgetary targets, productivity and inventory management. The Nurse Manager will develop systems to ensure instrumentation and equipment is readily available for surgeries. The Manager will continuously monitor services provided and collaborate with the team in developing methods to improve utilization and efficiency.     Please note: The compensation ranges listed online for roles not covered by a bargaining unit agreement are very wide, however a job offer will typically fall in the range of 80% - 120% of the established mid-point. An offer will take into consideration the experience of the final candidate AND the current salary level of individuals working at UCSF in a similar role.

    For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement, there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range.

    Department Description

    The Orthopaedic Institute (OI) Perioperative program is an out-patient surgery program, servicing patients with Orthopaedic needs. There are 5 operating rooms and 2 procedure rooms.

    Required Qualifications

    • 2+ years of ambulatory surgery experience
    • 5+ years of OR experience
    • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN)
    • Registered Nurse in the State of California (RN)
    • AHA CPR certification
    • 2+ years of progressive clinical leadership/management experience
    • Recent clinical OR experience, ASC experience
    • Able to prioritize effectively according to departmental needs and ability to organize a large number of changing variables.
    • Strong communication, writing and inter-personal abilities, including skills such as attitude, diplomacy and persuasiveness, analytical ability, strong judgment and managerial skills.
    • Strong clinic / center patient care management skills. Practice management knowledge in scheduling, customer-service methods, regulatory compliance, accreditation requirements, and / or information technology. Broad knowledge of patient population served and the requirements for the delivery of services.
    • Strong leadership, fiscal, and operations management skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with physicians, management, and staff from all disciplines. Ability to create and maintain a goal-oriented climate of teamwork, collaboration, and co
    • Knowledge of relevant healthcare information technology and patient care workflows and processes.
    • Demonstrated knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements, as well as related legislative, accreditation, licensing, and compliance environments.
    • Proven ability to organize, manage multiple priorities, and delegate work functions efficiently.
    • Knowledge of current and emerging best practices and technologies in the clinic / center healthcare industry.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Periop experience in orthopaedic
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
    • Master's Degree

    License/Certification

    • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN)
    • Registered Nurse in the State of California (RN)
    • AHA CPR certification
