- High School diploma or GED equivalency preferred
- Two (2) years of work experience in grounds-keeping and general maintenance including experience operating equipment such as trucks, commercial lawn equipment, tractor, and tow motor; OR, a combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills are acquired.
- Good organizational skills and the ability to communicate effectively
- A clean and valid driver's license
- The ability to successfully pass a criminal background check
- Perform various grounds duties, including but not limited to: leaf raking; planting and mulch replacement; lawn care to include mowing, trimming trees and hedges and flower maintenance;
- Assist in various general maintenance projects such as carpentry, welding, plumbing, construction, leveling and repair of sidewalks, repairing holes in asphalt, layout and lining of athletic fields.
- Ability to work irregular hours without degradation of performance.
- Ability to drive various types of vehicles and motorized equipment.
- Responsible for daily upkeep of the property buildings and grounds which includes cleaning and removal of trash.
- Water and upkeep landscaping as needed/directed.
- Pressure wash curbs, entrances, sidewalks, breezeways, and other surfaces.
- Adhere to OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Act) standards and company safety policies at all times.
- In the event of snow/ice, spread salt on public passageways to prevent ice buildup (as needed), rake, sweep, and shovel.
- Regular and reliable attendance during scheduled hours.
- Performs regular maintenance and minor repairs on lawn equipment and tools.
- Other duties, as assigned by the Director of Facilities.
- Ability required to bend, stoop, crouch, grasp, push and pull and to climb stairs and/or ladders.
- While performing required job tasks, physically able to bend, crouch and reach continuously.
- While performing required job tasks, physically able to remain standing and walk up to 100% of the time.
- Considerable heavy physical work performed such as: lifting, pushing or pulling of objects up to 50 pounds (any item over 50 pounds would require the incumbent to request assistance).
- Ability to operate various equipment used in grounds and maintenance areas, including lawn mowers, paint sprayer, tractor, weed eater, chainsaw, hack saw, drill press, welding torch, digger, and snowplow.
- Work involves moderate exposure to chemical, mechanical, and/or electrical hazards; unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, work out of doors in inclement weather; dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors and/or loud noises which require the employee to use and follow safety measures/precautions.
