    This position is advertised from the minimum to the midpoint hourly rate. Salary will be determined based on education and experience at the time of offer.


    NATURE OF WORK


    Under general supervision, performs professional nursing service of considerable difficulty in public health programs in the field, clinic and office; this position has department specific responsibility.

    Provides services in specialty public health programs as assigned; develops and provides health education to individuals, families and community groups; aids clients in gaining or maintaining healthy choices; utilizes the 10 Essential Public Health Services tool to increase health of the community; participates in the development and implementation of continuous quality improvement activities within assigned programs; applies principles of epidemiology for assessment and mitigation of public health hazards; maintains appropriate confidentiality of all information encountered in performance of duties; refers patients/clients to other community agencies for assistance as needed; prepares educational materials and assists in planning and developing health and educational programs; plans for and participates in field research related to public health; researches, prepares and submits routine, recurring and special program reports to management; assists community members and public health entities in assessing, planning and providing needed health services; provides clinical intervention, home visits, case management, care coordination, referral and follow-up to individuals and families; provides education to the community and individuals in specialized programs such as:

    HIV, AIDS, Tuberculosis (TB), Sexually Transmitted Disease (STD), family planning, and adolescent health; administers medications, including immunizations, following clinic protocol; may supervise other nursing and community/public health professional, paraprofessional and clerical staff; maintains patient data, files and correspondence according to protocol; regular and reliable attendance is required; ability to provide phlebotomy services; performs other duties as assigned.

    Must possess a current valid unrestricted State of Arizona Registered Nurse license and fingerprint clearance card.

    (Failure to maintain the required licensure shall be grounds for separation); Must possess and maintain a valid Arizona driver's license; Requires successful completion of a background check.


    Preferred Experience:

    Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from a nationally accredited college or university with at least one course in community or public health nursing and one (1) year experience as a registered nurse.


    Special Notice Items:

    Department of Labor Regulation CFR Part requires notification that this category may have a high risk of exposure to blood borne pathogens, TB screening, Hepatitis B vaccine, Individual safety training and equipment will be provided.

    Hourly rate has been revised effective July 09, 2023.

    Knowledge of:

    County policies and procedures; public health nursing principles and practices; health sciences including health maintenance, promotion and prevention; principles of health education and counseling; principles of epidemiology; community assessment and resources.


    Skill in:

    Nursing assessment and diagnosis of physical and psycho social health needs; community principles of health education; monitoring and evaluating client progress; applying public health nursing principles; exercising initiative and judgment in selecting proper nursing intervention; responding appropriately to emergency situations; preparing complete and accurate reports and records; establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with employees, other agencies and the public.


    Ability to:

    Research and write detailed reports; read, to write and synthesize data and reports; use modern office equipment and computers; communicate effectively verbally and written; planning and organizing work; lift at least 20 lbs; perform the essential functions of the job specifications with or without a reasonable accommodation.

    Work Environment


    The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity; Generally, the job requires 60% sitting, 20% walking and 20% standing; Working at a computer monitor for extended periods requires; The job is performed under minimal temperature variations and may have a high risk of exposure to blood borne pathogens, TB, body fluids, Hepatitis B.
