    Wecurrently have an opening for a Network Technician.

    This is an anticipated vacancy.

    The primary responsibility of the Network Technician is to install, test, maintain, upgrade, and troubleshoot the NCDOT network field infrastructure. This employee will interact with employees at all levels in all DOH, DMV and other NCDOT offices across the state.

    Duties include, but are not limited, to:
    • Install and maintain network infrastructure and configure Layer 2 network switch hardware and maintain other field network equipment as needed
    • Participate in the installation and maintenance of NCDOT network infrastructure at over 500 sites
    • Primarily (90%) participate in the installation of CAT5 / 6 network cabling and Fiber optic cabling and secondarily (10%) work on network equipment configuration and troubleshooting
    • Responsible for the maintenance and repair of voice, data, and video network cabling and systems as well as other related network technologies. This will include work in confined spaces like attics and crawl spaces as well as working on ladders in ceiling spaces

    The primary purpose of the Network Services Team is to provide reliable, cost effective and secure network services that meet business requirements. Within the Network Services Team, the Network Field Services Team oversees network infrastructure functions, specifically network installations, configurations, and operations, in order to meet client & agency needs. This team is responsible for ensuring that adequate network service is deployed, maintained, audited, and properly functioning to protect NCDOT and the state's information technology assets and reliable computer network availability.

    To qualify for this position, applicants must document on the application that they possess ALL of the following:
    • Experience installing cat 5&6 cabling
    • Experience performing site surveys with future growth planning
    • Experience configuring, upgrading, and troubleshooting network switches such as Cisco
    • Experience working with fiber optic installation, termination, splicing, testing, and troubleshooting
    • Experience with network cable troubleshooting and testing practices
    Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
