    Description
    The CVC Nurse performs under the direct supervision of the Director of Quality Management Services. The primary responsibility is to provide/ensure maintenance care of central vascular access therapy while serving as a resource to optimize therapy. Demonstrates critical thinking skills and uses professional judgement to respond promptly with intervention and appropriateness of central vascular access when clinical changes occur, and prevention of complications in patients in need of cardiac monitoring, stroke care and medical-surgical care. Demonstrates broad level of understanding for the need and indication for central venous catheter utilization and care. The CVC Nurse shall implement the nursing process in an organized, systematic manner to include assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation as evidenced by documentation in the Patient Care Record. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. Possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interprets the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age specific needs, and to provide the care needed. Demonstrates knowledge and skills to appropriately communicate and interact with patients, families, and visitors of all age groups while being sensitive to their cultural and religious beliefs.

    Performs other duties as assigned by the QM Director.

    Performance Expectations
    • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and critically think/problem solve.
    • Demonstrates skill, sterile technique, care and troubleshooting with central lines, Hickman catheters, Infusa ports, PICC, and peripheral catheter performance.
    • Monitors and assesses the condition of the patient's veins, the patient's disease and anticipated prescribed therapies.
    • Conducts an early vascular access assessment to determine and make recommendations for the most appropriate type of vascular access needed.
    • Demonstrates ability to perform all technical skills required for each unit's population by rendering professional nursing care including rounding, assessing and performing routine and PRN sterile dressing changes for PICC/Central Lines/Midlines.
    • Demonstrates thorough, concise, and timely documentation in the medical record.
    • Provides infusion consultation services to enhance the intravenous skills of the nursing staff through bedside teaching for central line troubleshooting, and consultation on any infusion therapy questions with the care, maintenance, and utilization of PICC, Central line catheters, and Midlines.
    • Communicates pertinent patient information to all health care team members, specifically attending physician, and home health agencies regarding patients with central vascular access.
    • Adheres to and promotes the established values of the organization, i.e. customer service, safety, infection control and compliance standards.
    • Consistently follows patient care and FGH policy, procedures, and standards of care in performing nursing duties.
    Qualifications:

    Education/Skills

    Graduate of a recognized non-online RN program required.

    Work Experience:

    Minimum 3-5 years acute clinical care nursing required, preferably ICU or ER experience. Previous PICC line/Vascular Access experience preferred.

    Certification/Licensure-DUE UPON HIRE
    • Licensed RN able to practice within the State of MS
    Additional Certification/Licensure - Obtained based on required timeframe below
    • Basic Life Support
    Within 30 Days of Employment
