    Description

    Working as a Customs and Border Protection Officer (CBPO) is an exceptional opportunity to be part of an elite team of highly trained professionals. As a CBPO, you will be a valuable member of the Federal Law Enforcement Officer profession, protecting American interests and securing our nation.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Enforcing customs, immigration, and agriculture laws and regulations
    • Facilitating the flow of legitimate trade and travel
    • Conducting inspections of individuals and conveyances
    • Determining the admissibility of individuals for entry into the United States

    Work Environment

    CBPOs work in various locations along the U.S. borders with Canada and Mexico, as well as at ports of entry across the country. They may also be assigned to other duty locations as needed.

    Benefits

    As a CBPO, you will be eligible for a range of federal employment benefits, including health insurance, dental insurance, paid annual leave, and participation in the Thrift Savings Plan. You may also be eligible for recruitment incentives based on your duty location.

    Qualifications

    To qualify for the GS-5 grade level, you must possess one of the following: a minimum of three years of full-time general work experience, a bachelor's degree, or a combination of college education and work experience. To qualify for the GS-7 grade level, you must possess one of the following: a minimum of one year of specialized full-time work experience, a bachelor's degree with superior academic achievement, or a combination of work experience and graduate-level education.

    Training and Development

    Newly appointed CBPOs must complete a 101-day training program at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in Glynco, GA. This training covers basic law enforcement skills, immigration laws, firearms training, and physical fitness.
