Compensation*: $70,000 annual salary + benefits

    About Swell:

Swell is on a mission to improve our community's mental health through self-guided preventative programs and accessible therapy. We envision a world of happier, kinder, and more mentally resilient people - and we're making it possible through an evidence-based mental health platform.

Launching in October of this year, our flagship product, Therapy+ is a mobile-based telehealth therapy application, intended to help military members and their families access evidence-based mental health therapy when they need it, without paying out of pocket. Our product will combine traditional 1:1 video therapy sessions with a mobile application designed to enhance skill adoption outside of the session, and reduce the overall time-to-benefit in therapy.

We're a small startup with founders from the health-tech space, and are looking for a thought leader with experience in the clinical therapy setting. If you're excited about our mission and believe that together we can leverage technology to improve mental health care, then we want to talk to you

We're building a distributed team located across several states and leveraging tools and skills to make working remotely work for us. This role will be remote with options for in-person coworking and team building that will grow as we do. We're looking for someone who can embrace the work-from-anywhere lifestyle while helping ensure we're building a culture of collaboration and inclusivity across our team.

    What you'll do here:

This role is designed to be 60% client facing, 40% administrative at first, with the split being more administrative by the end of next year.

  • Be responsible for the Video Therapy program at Swell, including the quality of care provided to our clients, and the quality of support provided to our clinicians. We'll establish metrics for measuring success together.
  • Serve as a direct manager for our first 2 therapists (fully licensed, unsupervised) & eventually for numerous supervisors as well.
  • Provide ongoing training, supervision, and consultation for therapists at Swell.
  • Act as a thought partner for therapists, provide guidance on care plans, and support your team members' individual development.
  • Ensure high standards of care are being met and help us build out the clinical side of our therapy practice: maintaining safety plans, implementing policies that improve care at Swell, building processes that make both our therapists and clients lives easier, etc.
  • See no more than 20 patients per week via video visit during our beta period - the expectation is that your patient load will scale down as your team grows (Expect a reduction in ~2 patients for every new therapist who joins your team)
  • Support hiring and training thoughtful, skilled therapists and other talented team members.
  • What the next year will look like:

We plan to start providing video care with our therapists through our app and begin our private-beta with a small group of military families in Fort Campbell in October of this year. We'll spend the winter getting into a good working rhythm & improving our app and therapy experience for both therapists and our clients. This looks like working through bugs (both technical and operational) and implementing processes that will help us scale the things we're doing. We expect this time period to be exciting and full of growth for the team as we learn each other and establish our company, but also anticipate healthy friction and a touch of turbulence as we encounter things we didn't expect and learn from the mistakes we probably don't know we're making now.

In the first half of next year, we plan to start scaling video therapy to more people. This means hiring more therapists & supervisors and growing our community presence in and around Fort Campbell. We'll also start ramping up work on our self-guided care modules and testing them in the market. As our hiring efforts grow, we expect the person in this role to reduce caseload and focus on leadership and program improvement.

    About you:

  • You have empathy in spades
  • You're a fully licensed therapist in the state of TN
  • You have experience treating individuals with trauma, PTSD, Postpartum Depression, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, and Depressive disorders
  • You work with evidence-based care modalities
  • You're a proactive self-organized person who's confident in modeling boundaries and asking for what you need at work
  • You're a people-first leader who builds trust, supports and advocates for team members, and fosters independence and ownership within your team
  • You're great at taking initiative and can own something fully without being given step by step instructions (we love collaborating but startups are busy places so autonomy is key)
  • You share Swell's vision and want to be a part of making it a reality
  • You want to work in a startup and grow with Swell over the next few years (further developing your leadership skills, building a large team, developing programs to support the team - all with support from leadership)
  • When thinking about the way things are done, you're willing to challenge norms and ask "how can this be better?" to improve the status quo
  • You believe in challenging yourself and your clients, leaning into the discomfort that often accompanies growth

  • Minimum Requirements

  • Must already be licensed by a State Board to provide individual mental health therapy (e.g., LPC, LCSW, LMFT, LMHC, PsyD or similar credentials)
  • Must have recent experience providing clinical therapy in an outpatient setting
  • Must have access to a reliable internet connection that can support clear video calls
  • We don't require you to have held a director title or have a specific number of years of experience. We want you to apply if you meet the 3 minimum requirements above, you're a good therapist & supervisor, and if you believe you can do this job well.

    Benefits

  • 32-hour work week with a small caseload of 20 clients to start (less as your team size grows)
  • Super competitive compensation & stock options (path to ownership) in Swell
  • Great medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • 12 company-wide observed holidays
  • 2 floating personal holidays (to celebrate individual cultural and religious holidays)
  • 6 weeks paid time off
  • Untracked sick time - take what you need for you and your family
  • Remote culture that supports you working from anywhere with an internet connection
  • Guidance and mentorship to help you achieve your career goals
  • We're looking for several therapists and one supervisor to join our team and are open to folks who are fully licensed with the state of Tennessee and/or Kentucky.

We prefer our therapists to have foundational training in at least one evidence-based therapy modality and trauma-informed care knowledge prior to starting at Swell. We're happy to support you in further developing these skills through ongoing training, supervision, and consultation.

Individuals of all colors, backgrounds, religions (or lack thereof), sexual orientations, and gender identities who are passionate about helping clients bring about meaningful, measurable change in their lives are encouraged to apply.

*Note on salary - to keep things fair and balanced across our team, we decide on compensation for roles upfront and then communicate it transparently. This way salaries aren't dependent on negotiating skills or subjective traits that leave room for bias. At Swell, salaries are standardized for each role and level within the team, and printed on the job post.
