    Purpose of the Position

    This position is responsible for performing preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, mechanical repairs, and other tasks to keep the refrigeration systems operational to meet the production, refrigeration, and shipping needs of the facility.

    Responsibilities:

    • Monitor and operate the ammonia refrigeration system in accordance with standard operating procedures and safety guidelines, ensuring that the system is running efficiently and safely at all times.
    • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on the ammonia refrigeration equipment and components, such as compressors, condensers, evaporators, pumps, valves, pipes, sensors, etc., following the manufacturer's specifications and the company's maintenance schedule.
    • Troubleshoot and resolve ammonia-related issues and incidents in a timely and safe manner, following the emergency response plan and reporting any abnormalities or hazards to the supervisor and the safety manager.
    • Coordinate with external agencies and regulators, such as OSHA, EPA, and local fire departments, to ensure compliance with ammonia-related codes and standards, and to facilitate inspections, audits, and permits.
    • Train and mentor maintenance personnel on best practices for ammonia handling and operation, such as proper use of personal protective equipment, safe work practices, ammonia awareness, and emergency procedures.
    • Maintain accurate records and logs of ammonia-related activities, such as inspections, tests, repairs, audits, etc., using the company's computerized maintenance management system and other documentation tools.
    • Follow all company policies and procedures related to quality, food safety, environmental, health and safety, and confidentiality, and report any non-conformities or violations to the supervisor and the quality manager.
    • Work closely with other departments and teams, such as production, engineering, and quality, to ensure optimal plant performance and efficiency, and to provide technical support and feedback on ammonia refrigeration systems.
    • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and projects related to ammonia refrigeration systems, such as energy efficiency, process optimization, and innovation.
    • Other comparable duties and responsibilities may be assigned as needed.

    Qualifications

    The ideal candidate will possess the following:

    • Must hold a Minimum of a Certified Industrial Refrigeration Operator (CIRO License) (or be eligible to obtain immediately).
    • 5 years of experience in ammonia refrigeration.
    • Experience in electrical and mechanical troubleshooting and repairs.
    • Ability to read and understand manuals, drawings, and P&ID Documents.
    • Ability to follow proper safety procedures and requirements.
    • Demonstrated ability to follow oral and written instructions.
    • Ability to establish, lead and maintain effective working relationships in a team environment.
    • Self-motivated with ability to allow constructive feedback to grow in position.
    • Ability to lift at least 50 pounds and stand for extended periods of time.
    • Must have Forklift certification and experience and be willing to obtain with our organization.
    • Ability to adapt and accommodate change.

    This job operates within a professional office and plant manufacturing environment. While performing the duties of this job inside the office, the employee is frequently exposed to normal working conditions for an office environment with a noise level that is usually quiet to moderate. While performing duties of this job inside and outside the manufacturing plant, the employee is frequently exposed to normal working conditions of a food manufacturing facility with a noise level that is usually moderate to loud. The role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers and filing cabinets, as well as laboratory instrumentation and equipment.

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee may be required to stand for long periods of time as well as use hands or fingers to reach or handle, and to reach with hands and arms. The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee will occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. All vision abilities are required to encompass close-up work. On occasion, employee must be able to tolerate and endure extended seasonal hours and maintain alertness to meet deadlines.

    Occasionally while performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to machinery and moving parts, airborne particles including grain dust and hazardous materials or fumes, which may require the use of PPE. The employee may be exposed to adverse weather conditions, extended seasonal hours, high precarious places, and confined spaces. The noise level in some of the work environments may require the use of hearing protection.
