- Install and repair new and existing high-pressure piping systems such as steam heating, steam generation, hydraulic systems, steam generators, flash and expansion tanks, condensate, vacuum, circulating pumps and radiators
- Install, modify and repair pipes for systems such as sewage, water, oil, gas distribution water closets, tubs, backflow prevention devices/assemblies, fire sprinkler and showers
- Weld copper joints and steam lines
- Operate drain and sewer cleaning machinery
- Operate heavy hand tools and power equipment
- Recognize developing vehicular maintenance problems when conducting operator inspections
- Locate and tap main lines, set up system routes, place and cut openings
- Determine tools, parts, equipment and supplies needed, including proper types, sizes and materials
- Improvise installations when blueprints and sketches do not provide sufficient information
