    Victory Programs is a Boston-based nonprofit organization dedicated to helping individuals and families who are homeless and may have substance use disorders, often accompanied by chronic health issues like HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis C, and mental illness. Providing a welcoming environment, our compassionate and inspiring team is committed to helping them regain their health and restore their hope through immediate access to safe and stable housing. We open doors to recovery, hope, and community to individuals and families facing homelessness, drug and alcohol addiction, and chronic illnesses like HIV/AIDS.

    Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Controller will oversee the day-to-day operations of Victory Programs' finance department. The Controller will ensure the timely execution of core finance and accounting processes, in coordination with the CFO identify and implement process and system improvements, monitor the effectiveness of internal controls, and ensure that all financial reporting needs are met.

    The Controller must possess strong analytical, communication, and people skills with grounding in accounting/finance best practices. The ideal individual should also be able to manage several projects simultaneously and complete tasks based on Victory Programs' priorities and deadlines.

    Essential Functions:

    • Directly supervise the Finance Manager as well as indirectly supervise Victory Programs' Staff Accountants and Billing Specialist;
    • Ensure Victory Program's accounts payable, accounts receivable, third-party billing, contract billing, and payroll functions occur in a timely and accurate manner;
    • Oversee the recording and reporting of all transactions in the general ledger, which includes closing the books, maintain chart of accounts, and periodically auditing of errors;
    • Review and authorize government contract billing and submit contract amendments as needed;
    • Review and reconcile Victory Programs' banking, credit, and donation accounts;
    • Report on the organization's financial status on a regular basis and create reports when needed;
    • Assist other departments in compliance matters by providing data necessary to complete state and federal financial requirements;
    • Serves as a back-up/stand-in for the CFO, Finance Manager, Staff Accountants, and Billing Specialist during absences;
    • Manage the monthly preparation of financial reports for leadership;
    • Review and approve bi-weekly payroll;
    • Safeguard assets through review and implementation of internal controls;
    • Assist the CFO with the annual budget process as well as prompt completion of the audits;
    • Acts as a positive influence, especially in matters of fiduciary responsibility and control.

    Required Skills and Qualifications:
    • A self-starter, able to work independently and proactively, set and achieve goals, be held accountable, function calmly, be reserved, and effectively under stress;
    • Resourceful and able to think critically, especially regarding handling conflicting priorities proactively and expeditiously;
    • Flexible; able to change tasks and priorities as necessary;
    • Highly organized and detail-oriented;
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills;
    • Ability to think analytically, apply sound judgment, and solve problems.
    • Three work related references; at least 2 from supervisor or manager.
    • Must be CPR certified (may be obtained upon hire).
    • Completed TB screening (may be obtained upon hire).
    Education and Experience:
    • Bachelor's Degree in accounting, finance, or related field;
    • A minimum of five (5) years' experience as a controller, finance manager, or a similar role;
    • Familiarity with the nonprofit sector preferred;
    • Prior database management experience or training;
    • Excellent computer skills, including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and other office software. Knowledge of both Google and Microsoft products is preferrable.

    Salary + Classification:

    Victory Programs is committed to paying competitive wages. To increase equity, because we know that salary negotiations tend to have an unfair bias, we do not participate in a salary negotiation process for any candidate to an exempt position. We will make our best offer, and it will be the same regardless of the candidate. The annual salary for the Controller is $105,000. This position meets the exemption requirements as defined by state and federal law. Exempt employees are paid on a salaried basis, and their salary is intended to constitute their entire regular compensation, regardless of the number of hours they work; therefore, exempt employees are not eligible for overtime pay.

    Hours: 40 hours/week; in-person; Monday - Friday, daytime

    Salary Description
