Description
The Lactation Consultant Nurse is responsible for providing high-quality lactation support and services to breastfeeding mothers and infants, both inpatient and outpatient.
This includes educating patients, families, and the community on the benefits of breastfeeding, as well as developing feeding plans for a range of infants from the normal newborn to the complex neonate.
The Nurse works closely with the Birth Center, Newborn and Intensive Care Nurseries, Pediatrics, OB and Family Practice to ensure continuity of care for patients.
The Nurse also acts as a mentor to nursing staff and healthcare learners to promote evidence-based clinical practice and supports breastfeeding skills in the mother-infant dyad.
Provide lactation support and services to breastfeeding mothers/infantsCollaborates with the interdisciplinary team to provide continuity of care upon discharge of patients
Evaluates results of care using accepted outcome criteria, revises the plan accordingly, and refers to the provider when needed
Acts as a professional leader and development role model in professionalism through conduct, appearance, communication, mutual respect, leadership, ethical decision-making, critical thinking and problem-solving skills
Qualifications:
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
Minimum of Associate degree (BSN preferred)
Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Florida
At least 2+ years' Obstetrics nursing experience
Basic Life Support (BLS Provider) certification from the American Heart Association required
Certification as a Lactation Consultant through the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners (IBCLC) or certification as a CLC (Certified Lactation Counselor) or CBC (Certified Breastfeeding Counselor) required
Bilingual in Spanish or Creole preferred
Knowledge, skills and abilities in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Windows
Excellent teaching, verbal, and written communication skills essential
