    POSITION SUMMARY: The Senior Payroll Tax Analyst play a crucial role in guaranteeing accurate and timely payroll tax payments, reporting, and overall compliance across the organization. The expert oversees all aspects of payroll tax operations, stays updated on tax regulations, and implements adjustments to maintain compliance standards. The role requires strong analytical capabilities, an in-depth understanding of payroll tax legislation, and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve payroll tax procedures.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Monitor and interpret federal, state, and local tax laws to ensure compliance.
    • Stay abreast of regulatory changes and updates systems and processes accordingly.
    • Conduct regular audits to identify and resolve compliance issues, such as refinement of tax filing forms, magnetic media, and internet filing processes.
    • Collaborate with the Payroll Team to ensure accurate and timely processing of payroll tax liabilities.
    • Reconcile state withholding taxes and state unemployment taxes monthly, quarterly, and annually.
    • Ensure payroll tax deposits are remitted timely and accurately.
    • Serves as the SAP, in-house system expert for payroll tax calculations.
    • Apply for identification numbers, such as FEIN, and SUI, when entering new jurisdictions.
    • Prepare and submit required tax filings accurately and within deadlines.
    • Produce and file payroll tax amendments and corrections for state and federal returns.
    • Work closely with internal stakeholders including, Finance, HR, and Benefits, to address payroll tax related inquiries and issues.
    • Troubleshoot system issues related to payroll tax calculations.
    • Reconcile various payroll GL accounts, such as net payroll liability, payroll taxes, paid family taxes, and miscellaneous benefit advance receivables.
    • Continuously evaluate and enhance payroll tax processes to improve efficiency and accuracy.
    • Identify opportunities for automation and lead implementation efforts.
    • Maintain comprehensive documentations of payroll tax processes, policies, and procedures.

    QUALIFICATIONS: Successful performance in this role requires the ability to execute each essential duty outlined in the job description. The following requirements represent the minimum knowledge, skill, and/or ability necessary for this position. SAP experience highly desired.

    Education/Experience: Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university in Finance, Accounting, or relevant field. Two (2) or three (3) years of direct experience as a Payroll/Payroll Analyst within an in-house system. Familiarity with tax regulations and experience with managing multi-state payroll processes.

    Language Ability: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and government regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondences, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information, recommendations and responses to inquiries from groups of managers, customers, co-workers and external vendors.

    Math Ability: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as imputed income, taxable wages, pre and post-tax related wages, earnings and deductions affecting gross to net wages resulting in W2 reportable data. Ability to perform above calculations using both income tax tables and payroll tax knowledge.

    Reasoning Ability: Ability to research and either resolve or recommend best practice in adherence to tax regulatory compliance to management and the company. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, verbal, diagram, meeting, and related format.

    Computer Skills: Must be able to operate a personal computer and various standard office machines and equipment, i.e. calculator, fax machine, phone line, sorter/stuffer and related peripherals necessary to complete duties. Must have some knowledge of SAP or similar payroll software systems. Must be proficient in Microsoft office suite of applications, Word, Excel, Outlook.
