    As an intern, you will participate in our nationwide Internship & Co-Op Program, LEAP, where you will have the opportunity to Learn, Engage, Apply, and Progress within the company.     This is a summer position that has a typical timeframe of May – August. Internships and Co-ops may be shortened or extended at the discretion of the company. In this position you will be supporting the Combat Mission Systems Business at your Minneapolis, MN facility. This position is expected to be onsite at. Relocation, not be offered. Housing is not provided.

    BAE Systems is seeking a Controls Engineering Intern. This is an internship intended to give an engineering student real world exposure to the controls engineering process. You will work in a rapid development environment as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

    Controls Engineers at BAE Systems perform the following tasks:
    • Design and implement control algorithms to meet stability and performance requirements.
    • Create, with use of a modeling tool, detailed linear and nonlinear dynamic models of the mechanism to be controlled, drives, motors and sensors used to control the automated mechanism.
    • Perform stability, controllability, and observability analyses using these models to develop the control algorithm
    • Select sensors and actuators.
    • Perform simulations to validate design algorithms
    • Perform hardware in the loop testing to tune and verify control algorithms
    • Use code generation tools to develop, test, and deliver production embedded software
    Required Education, Experience, & Skills
    • Enrollment in a 4-year degree program toward a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Physics or related field.
    • Must have completed two years of college.
    • Team player with a proactive attitude and the ability to be productive in a dynamic environment.
    • Ability to work in a collaborative environment (open seating arrangement).
    • Effective verbal and written communications skills.
    • Ability to take initiative, multi-task, and work well under pressure.
    Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
    • Experience with Matlab/Simulink/Stateflow
    • Experience with a programming language
    • A current secret clearance or ability to be granted a secret clearance by the Federal Government
    Pay Information
    Full-Time Salary Range: $ $60280

    Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.

    Temporary employees generally are not eligible for BAE Systems benefits, but can elect to participate in the 401(k) savings plan. Temporary employees working 20+ hours per week are eligible for medical benefits, the employee assistance program, and business travel accident insurance.
