- Provide guidance to engineers and technical staff on geotechnical exploration capabilities, testing methods, industry standards, and drilling procedures.
- Advise on challenging site conditions such as excessive groundwater, unstable excavations, slopes, or geologic risks.
- Create final-design data submissions, drawings, and construction geology reports.
- Document geotechnical construction activities, conduct foundation mapping, and prepare geologic construction documentation.
- Execute field investigations and aquifer testing to assess groundwater and complex geologic issues.

A. Bachelor's degree in geology plus 20 additional semester hours in related fields.

B. Combination of education and experience equivalent to the above.
To qualify at GS-11, demonstrate specialized experience or higher education.
To qualify at GS-12, show experience in finalizing construction specifications, cost estimates, risk analysis, dewatering programs, and preparing construction geology reports.
Experience includes paid and voluntary work that provides relevant skills.
