    Position Summary: The Director of Finance is a senior-level leadership role responsible for overseeing all financial operations, budgeting, financial reporting, and fiscal planning. This position plays a crucial role in maintaining financial stability and ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. The Director of Finance reports directly to the Superintendent and collaborates with various stakeholders to support the educational goals of the district.

    Key Responsibilities: Director of Finance

    1. Financial Strategy and Planning:
      • Develop, implement, and monitor the district's financial strategies and long-term financial plans to support educational objectives.
      • Analyze financial trends and provide recommendations for enhancing financial performance and stability.
    2. Budgeting and Forecasting:
      • Lead the budgeting process, working closely with department heads to ensure accurate budget preparation aligned with district goals.
      • Provide financial forecasts and projections to guide decision-making and resource allocation.
    3. Financial Reporting and Analysis:
      • Oversee the preparation and distribution of accurate and timely financial reports, statements, and analyses to stakeholders, including the school board and district administration.
      • Interpret financial data, analyze results, and communicate insights to support informed decision-making.
    4. Compliance and Regulations:
      • Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal financial regulations and reporting requirements.
      • Stay updated on changes in laws, regulations, and accounting standards affecting school districts.
    5. Cash Flow Management:
      • Manage cash flow to meet the district's financial obligations and maintain optimal liquidity levels.
      • Monitor and forecast cash flow to ensure availability of funds for operational needs.
    6. Financial Operations and Controls:
      • Oversee financial operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general accounting, to ensure accurate and efficient processing.
      • Establish and maintain effective financial controls and procedures to safeguard the district's assets.
    7. Grants and Fund Management:
      • Administer and oversee grants and other funding sources to maximize financial support for educational programs.
      • Monitor and report on grant compliance and fund utilization.
    8. Investment and Debt Management:
      • Manage the district's investments and debt portfolio, optimizing returns while ensuring compliance with investment policies and debt covenants.
    9. Stakeholder Engagement:
      • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including district leadership, school board, auditors, and financial partners, to provide financial information, address inquiries, and build relationships.

    Qualifications: Director of Finance

    • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, business administration, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
    • Minimum of 7-10 years of progressive financial leadership experience, preferably in a school district or educational institution.
    • Strong understanding of governmental accounting principles, budgeting, and financial reporting.
    • Knowledge of education funding, grants management, and applicable laws and regulations in the education sector.
    • Exceptional analytical, strategic planning, and communication skills.
    • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and lead financial staff effectively.
    • Proficiency in financial software and technology systems.
