About The Role
Lumenci is seeking high-level Technology Expert Witnesses to provide authoritative technical analysis and testimony for complex IP litigation, patent disputes, and technical investigations. We are looking for experts to join us in two capacities in a contractor or Full-Time employment (W-2):
- Contractor position (1099): For specialized industry practitioners or independent consultants available for high-stakes, project-specific testimony and deep-dive technical discovery.
- Full-Time position (W-2): For experts looking to build a career within Lumenci, managing a consistent portfolio of cases, mentoring junior consultants, and contributing to long-term strategic growth.
Key Responsibilities
Expert Technical Analysis & Discovery
- Map technical coverage across key domains including one or multiple software, semiconductors, telecom, networking, and/or medical devices.
- Conduct deep-dive reviews of product architectures, hardware RTL, and/or software source code to identify infringement or invalidity.
- Analyze technical standards (e.g., SEP/FRAND) and patent portfolios to support case strategy and monetization lifecycles.
Expert Reporting & Authoring
- Draft comprehensive opening and rebuttal expert reports that meet FRE 702 and Rule 26 standards.
- Collaborate with Lumenci's consulting team and Clients to ensure technical findings are accurately translated into defensible legal arguments.
Testimony & Litigation Support
- Provide high-stakes deposition and trial testimony, maintaining professional credibility and composure under cross-examination.
- Participate in technical tutorials for judges and counsel to simplify complex subject matter and illuminate the way for non-technical stakeholders.
Qualifications
Required Skills
- Approximately 10+ years of hands-on industry experience in specialized technical domains (e.g., Video Codecs, Semiconductors, Software, AI/ML, Telecom, Cloud Infrastructure, etc).
- Master's or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact with senior, highly credentialed legal professionals.
- Demonstrated ability to provide unbiased, objective analysis under rigorous legal scrutiny.
- Authorization to work in the United States.
Preferred Skills
- Prior experience as a testifying expert in Federal Court or Inter Partes Review (IPR) proceedings.
- Familiarity with IP litigation workflows, including discovery, claim charting, and validity analysis.

Full-time Employment Pay & Total Rewards Transparency
- Base Compensation Range: $75,000 – $180,000 per year (commensurate with level and location).

Contractual Pay & Total Rewards Transparency
The anticipated compensation for this Independent Contractor engagement is a project or hourly rate of $100– $550 per hour. This range represents a good-faith estimate of the rate Lumenci reasonably expects to pay at the time of this posting.
The final hourly rate offered within these ranges is determined based on several factors, including but not limited to the candidate's depth of technical specialization, years of relevant industry experience, advanced academic credentials, and a proven track record of providing expert testimony in high-stakes litigation.
Benefits: As 1099 Independent Contractor positions, these roles are not eligible for employer-sponsored health, dental, vision, or 401(k) benefits.
