    • Designs and develops new or revised products to support market needs. Gains and applies knowledge of industry and customer needs to develop game changing new products. Applies internal and supplier manufacturing capabilities into final designs (DFM). Strong abilities in DFMEA, and physical prototyping. Manages project timelines and communicates status of these to the product development department and general management team.

    Job Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Lead the design and development of new products and enhance existing products.
    • Leverage new materials and process technologies to create differentiate product.
    • Create, maintain, and successfully meet schedules for PD projects.
    • Support rollout and training on new or revised products.
    • Provide external and internal technical support.
    • Conduct material evaluations and prepare written technical R&D reports.
    • Apply creative thinking to new situations/opportunities.
    • Work closely with Endura Sales to address customer-related issues.
    • Drive profitability (raw materials, process, etc.) enhancement for customer programs.

    Requirements:

    • B.S. Engineering, Wood Science, Engineering, Chemistry, or related discipline
    • 10+ years of relevant product design and development experience
    • Experience in the fenestration industry (residential, commercial) or in Building Products (weatherproofing systems and components), or allied field a plus
    • Working knowledge of various wood manufacturing processes
    • A minimum of five years experience in Lumber, LVL, Veneer, OSB, MDF, Particleboard manufacturing that includes quality control preferred and/or a lead position in the wood products manufacturing industry is preferred.

    • Proven experience in successfully managing multiple product development projects.
    • This position can require travel to provide technical support at customer. Overnight travel is occasionally required.
    • Strong mechanical aptitude.
    • Demonstrated technical expertise, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills.
    • Self-motivated and self-disciplined to complete job responsibilities with minimal supervision.
    • Up to 10% travel or more as required.
    • Excellent time management, planning, organizing, and prioritizing skills.
    • Customer service orientation including fast response time and follow-up skills.
    • High level of initiative and a desire for continuous improvement.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Computer competency including a working knowledge of MS Office suite and ability to navigate internal systems.

    Minimum Qualifications and Experience Requirements:

    • BS Engineering, MS in Engineering a plus; preferably in Mechanical, Materials, Chemical Engineering.
    • 1 - 2 years experience.
    • Proven success in product design of composites, wood and plastic components. Additional electro-mechanical knowledge a plus.
    • Understanding of engineering with wood, composites, plastics, fiberglass, and adhesively bonded systems including understanding failure modes of these materials & technologies of sealing, insulated (thermal & sound), fire resistant composite systems. Related industry experience.
    • Competent in engineering a product from scratch using fundamental engineering principles and best practices taking appropriate material selections and construction designs into consideration.
    • Competent in leading and contributing to the development and engineering of innovative products that deliver significant business growth.
    • Skilled in crafting engineering documentation (specifications, drawings, test reports. Working knowledge of computer drafting tools (AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor and Microsoft Office applications).
    • A technical understanding of relevant manufacturing processes, ie. injection molding, SMC molding, extrusion, foam injection, lamination processes of (wood-) composite products, and knowledge of Lean Sigma tools to oversee the application of technical skills in the identification of root causes and proposed solutions within the realm of product engineering aspects.
    • DFMEA/ PFMEA, Lean/ Six Sigma Fundamentals
    • Ability to evaluate and refine existing product designs and materials from a product engineering perspective (technical design, material selection, product performance, testing, prototyping).
    • Multi-functional project leadership and communication skills
