    Description

    MCC is currently seeking a JOURNEYMAN WELDER. The individual is responsible for permanently fitting and welding various metals including but not limited to; steel, aluminum, and stainless steel parts using high-heat application to form a permanent

    bond. May specialize in one of the hundreds of different processes of welding to join metals together. Certification may be required depending on job specifications.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES

    1. Read blueprints and drawings and take or read measurements to plan layout and procedures
    2. Be proficient in MIG (GMAW), TIG (GTAW), and Stick (SMAW) as required
    3. Determine the appropriate welding equipment or method based on requirements
    4. Set up components for welding according to specifications (e.g. cut material with powered saws to match measurements)
    5. Operate angle grinders to prepare the parts that must be welded
    6. Align components using calipers, rulers etc., and clamp pieces
    7. Weld components using manual or semi-automatic welding equipment in various positions (vertical, horizontal or overhead)
    8. Repair machinery and other components by welding pieces and filling gaps
    9. Test and inspect welded surfaces and structures to discover flaws
    10. Maintain equipment in a condition that does not compromise safety
    11. Determine the welding position and type of metal to be fused
    12. Ensure welds meet standards and specifications
    13. Supervise machines or robots that perform automated welding tasks
    14. Operate heavy equipment and machinery in the performance of these essential duties
    15. Work with and around hazardous materials, as well as at heights and in confined spaces in the performance of these essential duties
    16. Drive a vehicle to various job sites throughout working hours and maintain a valid driver's license and a driving record that meets company policy
    17. Work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner
    18. Regular attendance and punctuality are essential for employee job performance
    19. Perform other duties as assigned
    Requirements

    ENVIRONMENT, PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
    • Exposure to varying indoor and outdoor conditions, loud noise, dust, toxic chemicals and materials, varying fumes or odors; slippery or uneven walking surfaces; and work in ditches/excavations
    • Work at heights, such as by working on ladders, scaffolds, platforms, and tops of single and multi-story buildings, as well as working in confined spaces such as underneath single-story and multi-story buildings
    • Must be able to perform manual and repetitive tasks and body movements including standing and/or walking for long periods of time, bending, reaching, and/or gripping frequently, climbing, pulling, and pushing
    • Must be able to lift up to 125lbs
    • May lift and carry heavy objects, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl in awkward positions
    • Must be able to complete job duties proficiently while adapting to changing demands and priorities
    • Must have the ability to work in a constant state of alertness and concentrate for long periods of time to perform duties in a safe manner
    • This position is subject to ergonomic testing
    SAFETY SENSITIVE

    This position is designated as a safety-sensitive position because it includes as part of the job duties operating a motor vehicle, operating, maintaining, and monitoring of heavy equipment and machinery, and working with and around hazardous materials, at

    heights, and in confined spaces. This position is one in which a lapse of attention could result in injury, illness, or death. For the safety of the employee and others, the employee must be able to work in a constant state of alertness and concentrate for long

    periods of time while operating, maintaining, and monitoring heavy equipment and machinery, and while working with and around hazardous materials, at heights, and in confined spaces.

    SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
    • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred
    • Welders certification may be required depending on job specifications
    • Knowledge of welding, structural brake forming, and other fabrication processes along with automated welding techniques
    • Ability to communicate clearly with other employees
    • All employees must provide and maintain the required tool inventory for this position
    • Good organizational and time-management skills
    • Ability to complete daily tasks with limited supervision and minimal errors requiring re-work
    • Ability and willingness to work overtime and non-standard schedule: nights, weekends, and holidays as/if required
    • A current valid driver's license is required
