Job description

About JLG, an Oshkosh company

JLG began in 1969, when our founder, John L. Grove set out to resolve growing safety concerns in the construction industry. Since then we have been committed to understanding the challenges and delivering innovative solutions to the access market. We partner with customers to provide quality equipment, training opportunities and trusted support within the access industry. We are a global company, and our products—including mobile elevating work platforms, telehandlers, utility vehicles and accessories—can be found all over the world.

The Project Engineer – Specialty Equipment is responsible for leading service and aftermarket engineering initiatives that support field serviceability, product lifecycle management, and customer satisfaction across JLG Specialty Equipment, including Jerr-Dan, AUSA, JLG Ag, and other Specialty Equipment brands as assigned. This role serves as a key technical liaison between Service, Aftermarket Parts, Warranty, Engineering, Quality, Sales, Technical Publications, R&D, and Supply Chain.

The position owns the development and execution of engineered service and aftermarket solutions, including service kits, aftermarket-only products, technical documentation support, and cross-functional change management. The Project Engineer manages projects from concept through release while ensuring alignment with Oshkosh, JLG, and Jerr-Dan engineering standards.

YOUR IMPACT

Project & Change Management

  • Plan and coordinate service and aftermarket engineering projects.

  • Prepare and maintain project documentation and communicate status, risks, and issues to internal stakeholders.

  • Review engineering CN releases to identify service, parts, and warranty impacts and ensure timely communication to affected teams.

  • Identify and develop retrofit and service solutions for in-service units to support customer applications and product reliability.

  • Represent Service and Aftermarket in NPD projects to ensure department goals and opportunities are considered.

Service Engineering

  • Lead the development of engineered service solutions by translating Voice of Customer (VOC) input into service kits and product enhancements.

  • Design, document, and release service kits using 3D CAD models and 2D drawings in accordance with Oshkosh standards and CN processes.

  • Partner with Service, Parts, Warranty, and Sales teams to resolve complex customer issues and feed learnings back into product improvements.

  • Support the development, revision, and prioritization of service manuals and instructions in coordination with Technical Publications.

Aftermarket Engineering

  • Own the development of aftermarket-only engineered products and kits from concept through production release.

  • Create and maintain CAD models, drawings, BOMs, and CN documentation for aftermarket components and kits.

  • Utilize ERP systems to create and maintain part numbers, BOM structures, and related data in accordance with established procedures.

  • Maintain comprehensive service and aftermarket kit listings across Jerr-Dan products.

  • Coordinate prototype sourcing and development with internal R&D resources and external suppliers.

  • Support competitive aftermarket parts initiatives by coordinating design, cost, and sourcing efforts.

Warranty, Quality & Continuous Improvement

  • Collaborate with Quality and Engineering teams to support root cause analysis and corrective actions for recurring warranty concerns.

  • Support customer quality initiatives by developing service and aftermarket engineering solutions.

  • Assist Quality in defining and coordinating the technical scope of service and aftermarket-related quality topics.

  • Participate as needed in customer VOC activities to uncover potential product or process improvement opportunities.

General & Cross-Functional Support

  • Support testing and validation of service and aftermarket engineered products.

  • Develop and review technical bulletins intended for distributor and service network communications.

  • Provide technical guidance to Service, Parts, and Warranty teams regarding product configuration, kits, and available solutions.

  • Perform other duties as assigned that align with service, aftermarket, and specialty equipment engineering objectives.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or related discipline required). Or technical degree with 5 years of applicable experience.

STANDOUT QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience in product, project, service, or aftermarket engineering within a manufacturing environment.

  • Moderate proficiency in 3D CAD modeling and 2D drawing creation; experience with Creo preferred.

  • Working knowledge of engineering documentation standards.

  • Project management, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills with focus on the customer experience.

  • Experience supporting mobile equipment, specialty vehicles, or heavy equipment.

  • Familiarity with service engineering, aftermarket parts development, or field support.

  • Exposure to BOM management, change management (CN/ECN), and ERP systems.

  • Experience working directly with service organizations, distributors, or customers.
