- A general knowledge of clinical trials and biostatistics
- Exposure to data analysis with missing data under assumptions of MCAR, MAR, and MNAR
- Understanding of challenges in designing with missing data in clinical trials following estimand framework based on ICH E9 (R1)
- Experience conducting simulation studies as part of the process to develop a clinical trial design
- Potential presentation at statistical conference and/or publication
- Experience using SAS/R either through job-related or coursework assignments
- Experience of basic data manipulation
- Knowledge of applied statistical analysis and basic concept of missing data
- Proficiency with standard office technology and software, e.g. MS Office Suite, Outlook, etc.
- Strong communication, collaboration, problem-solving and time-management skills; and
- Attention to detail; ability to work well independently and as part of a team.
- Coursework or on the job training using SAS software.
- Coursework or on the job training using R software is preferred.
- Student must be returning to school in the Fall Term OR has graduated within the 1 year of the start of the program.
- Must be available to work full-time, 40 hours a week.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States without VISA sponsorship.
- Ideally local to CA Bay Area, or at least able to work remotely within United States borders.
- Graduate students/PhD candidates are preferred.
- Prior knowledge/experience of clinical trial design/missing data analysis is preferred.

Job DescriptionThe successful applicant will provide support to the biostatistics team, which is part of the larger data science department in Santen. The intern could research simulation studies for better understanding of missing data impact in clinical trials in addition to contribute standardization of statistical analysis providing sample codes. The intern could also contribute to methodology of estimands especially intercurrent event strategies. The intern could also be assigned to additional data analysis activities using clinical trial data. Through this project the intern could gain:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND KEY DELIVERABLES:
Skills the intern will gain: The intern will gain experience in comprehensive research for better understanding of the estimand defined in ICH E9 (R1) and in simulation studies for missing data in the pharmaceutical industry.
QualificationsCompensation for this position is $40/hour and is expected to be 40 hours per week.
This is a Summer internship with a term of ~12 weeks.
