    Job Description:


    Positions allocable to this class are assigned to a diagnostic radiographic unit and use a variety of diagnostic X-ray machines and related equipment. They follow basic guidelines for positioning the patient and setting machine controls at operating modes and/or technical factors such as kilovoltage, milliamperage and distance. Radiologic Technologists operate mobile and stationary equipment within safe parameters specified by State law. They produce quality images of delicate anatomical structures in performing body section radiography, communicate with the patient to obtain his cooperation and relieve his anxiety, and position the ill and the injured to avoid further injury, pain and discomfort.

    Job Responsibilities:

    • Sets up examination room, materials and equipment including selection of appropriate film, collimators, cassettes, specified in procedure manuals.
    • Selects and computes machine settings to compensate for such variances as patient size, age, sex and tissue density.
    • Uses supportive devices such as sandbags, angle boards and binders to obtain precise position.
    • Selects proper film size, positions equipment at proper distance and angle, and adjusts cones or collimators to image a specified area.
    • Accurately positions the patient when the patient cannot be moved, deviates from basic positioning guidelines by angulating the X-ray tube and the film to avoid re-injury, discomfort and pain, or intruding the sterile field.
    • Checks the operation of equipment daily by checking switches and conduits for function. Receives and reviews physician's request for radiographic procedure and identifies the patient.
    • Elicits the cooperation of patients by explaining procedure, attempts to comfort those who fear radiographic examination by providing assurance.
    • Evaluates the patient's condition and applies immobilizing devices when the patient cannot cooperate.

    Job Requirements:

    • Work experience as a Radiology Technician performing radiographic procedures in a hospital or healthcare setting as a certified radiologic technologist.
    • Applicants must ensure the License and Certification Section of the application is completed. Provide the title(s) of your required certificate or permit(s), the number(s), date(s) of issue, date(s) of expiration and the name(s) of the issuing agency for the required certificate or permit as specified in the Requirements.

    Qualification & Experience:

    • Certification as a radiologic technologist issued by the State of California, Department of Public Health -AND- A radiologic technologist fluoroscopy permit issued by the State of California, Department of Public Health.
