    Description

    About Us

At HDR, we specialize in engineering, architecture, environmental and construction services. While we are most well-known for adding beauty and structure to communities through high-performance buildings and smart infrastructure, we provide much more than that. We create an unshakable foundation for progress because our multidisciplinary teams also include scientists, economists, builders, analysts and artists. That's why we believe diversity is our greatest strength. HDR is proud to be an equal opportunity workplace and an affirmative action employer.

    Watch Our Story:

We believe that the way we work can add meaning and value to the world. That ideas inspire positive change. That coloring outside the lines can illuminate fresh perspectives. And that small details yield important realizations. Above all, we believe that collaboration is the best way forward.

HDR's St. Louis Park, MN Office is seeking a Transportation Planner 2 to support a variety of transportation planning projects for clients in Minnesota and Wisconsin. This is a great opportunity to be part of the growth of HDR's MN/WI planning team and grow your career working on a variety of transformative projects. Example project types include complete streets conceptual design, active transportation plans, corridor studies, transit studies, transportation analysis to support environmental documentation, stakeholder facilitation, statewide and regional plans and studies, and managing local and federal grant applications.

Specific projects will be initially assigned that best align with the candidate's skillset, experience, and areas of interest. It is not expected that the candidate would possess all of the subject expertise areas of project types listed above. The candidate will have the opportunity to shape their career path in transportation planning through ongoing project work, successful booking of new projects, and in collaboration with HDR's internal work sharing network of planners nationally.

In the role of Transportation Planner 2 we'll count on you to:

    • Support delivery of transportation planning services for transit, highway, state agencies, cities and counties.
    • Be a task lead role on some projects, by leading planning tasks of a project and providing progress updates to the project manager on schedule and level of effort. This may include tasks such as leading existing conditions analyses, sociodemographic/equity analyses, bicycle and pedestrian analyses, transit feasibility, data analysis, authoring reports, and directing work of subject matter experts to complete tasks.
    • This role includes development and training opportunities in project management and working towards deputy project manager and project manager roles on small to medium sized projects. This includes training and opportunities to develop scopes, manage schedule and budget for planning tasks and standalone projects.
    • Interface with client and/or client-facing teams to coordinate delivery of tasks. This may include supporting client meetings and external stakeholder meetings.
    • Coordinate with strategic communications team on development of engagement materials
    • Coordinate with GIS technical staff on development of mapping deliverables and preparation of data for planning analyses.
    • Manage individual workload, balancing task lead or planner support roles depending upon the project, in addition to marketing and administrative time.
    • Support business development, proposals, and other marketing activities to bring in transportation planning work. Support proposal development processes in collaboration with marketing team and other team members.
