    Responsibilities*

  • Performs Diagnostic Images Corroborates the patient's clinical history with procedure, assuring information is documented and the exam ordered following patient identification guidelines. Utilizes proper radiation protection devices and immobilization techniques for the specific age population following Radiation Safety protocols for the patient and self. Properly positions the patient for proper anatomic demonstration while respecting the patient's condition and abilities. Utilizes the Radiographic equipment following proper protocols. Provide diagnostic high-quality images for interpretation understanding the Pediatric population and the need for low dose imagingg Assist the Radiologist in a fluoroscopy suite following the fluoroscopy guidelines and proper designated use of Contrast media.
  • Operate portable c-arm equipment in the operating room providing images as directed by the surgeon.
  • Understands and applies Guest relation skills following the Patient and Families First Principles.
  • Work consistently as a team member willing to assist everyone, crossing modalities when needed.
  • Follow Infection Control practices utilizing aseptic techniques, observing Universal precautions, and patient safety standards.
  • Possess a positive work ethic to enhance teamwork in a fast-paced environment and accountability for action.
  • Student will have indirect supervision on all exams that the student has comped. Student will not be able to image exams that they have not comped on during clinicals.
  • When imaging departments are not in need of student radiologic technologist, the student tech will be responsible for helping with the finding and testing of radiology and non-radiology lead.
  • Identify and enter data into the Radiology Information System and the PACS.
  • Monitor the Order Entries for all patient Radiographic exams.
  • Educate and monitor mandatory competencies for patient safety, infection control, fire safety, corporate compliance, and patient confidentiality. Including additional assigned educational modules for self-improvement.
  • Maintain BCLS Certification
  • Receive, relay, and document verbal, written, and electronic orders in the patient's medical record.
  • Required Qualifications*

  • Second year student that is close to being registry eligible.
  • Experience with all patients, understanding age-appropriate guidelines for communication, positioning, and radiation protection.
  • Demonstrated excellent customer service skills utilizing critical thinking skills that demonstrate ingenuity, creativity, and professionalism.
  • Excellent attendance record.
  • Must be willing to commit to working 20 hours per pay period to include weekdays and weekends—these hours will be outside of students clinical time.
  • The ability to meet the Radiographer's professional role expectations defined as, critical thinking skills, interpersonal behavioral and social skills including communication, physical mobility (pushing, pulling, reaching, and moving up to 50 pounds) and motor skills demonstrating gross and fine motor abilities, sensory abilities of speech, hearing, touch, visual observation, and cognitive attention for patient safety.

    The Radiographer is capable of maintaining the physical ability to:

  • Demonstrate critical thinking skills defined as:
  • Evaluate and follow work processes to ensure Patient Identification, evaluating Radiographs for image quality, selecting the correct exposure factors, taking into consideration the patient's size, age, and pathology.
  • Communicate both verbally and in writing at a professional level. Demonstrate English language proficiency being able to read, interpret the physician's orders, process the corresponding paperwork utilizing typing and computer skills and communicate with the patient's and families.
  • Display compassion, empathy, and professionalism regarding interactions with all customers and co-workers, fostering an atmosphere of respect.
  • Demonstrate sufficient locomotors and dexterity skills necessary for health care delivery with safety. To be able to push, pull, assist, and transfer patients from transportation devices to and from the radiography table without injury to self, patient, or others.
  • Be able to push, pull and move up to 50 pounds.
  • Physical ability to work standing on your feet 90% of the time, able to wear lead aprons for a minimum of 2 hours, and able to walk up to 5 miles during a normal workday.
  • Physical dexterity using fine motor skills manually reaching to position the radiographic tube to desired height and angle, using push buttons, knobs, and various controls.
  • Physically able to administer emergency care including performing CPR.
  • Use of sensory abilities of speech, hearing, touch, and visual observation as detailed: Auditory ability to hear monitor alarms, emergency signals and cries for help including being able to hear when in an environment where surgical masks are worn such as the Operating room.
  • Visual ability to assess the patient's needs for patient safety. Able to observe the necessary technical factors, collimator centering and all the equipment utilized by the radiographer.
  • Tactile ability for manipulation of body parts to ensure proper alignment, necessary palpation for patient positioning and manipulation of dials, buttons, and switches of various sizes.
  • Cognitive ability sufficient for patient assessment and operation of equipment and care of patients. Must be able to concentrate and focus attention and efforts on the patients', the procedure, and the performance of the equipment for varying periods of time. Able to respond to patients' changing physical conditions and the stressful demands of the job requirements.
  • Desired Qualifications*

  • McKesson PACS experience, as well as proficient computer entry skills, including MiChart.
  • Experience with general diagnostics in Inpatient/Outpatient/Pediatric Clinic setting, Fluoroscopic Procedures, Digital Imaging experience with GE, Siemens, EOS, and Bone Density exams.

    Background Screening

    Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings. Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
