    POSITION SUMMARY

    The Safety Instructor is responsible for teaching certification courses, including Lifeguarding, CPR, BLS, and first aid, in adherence to the program standard of the training program used.

    Must be able to travel to all the YMCA of Greater Grand Rapids YMCA locations. Must be able to teach classes at various times of the day and week, including weekends and evenings.


    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    • Maintain affiliation with the YMCA of Greater Grand Rapids Training Center for American Red Cross.
    • Be proficient, up to date, currently authorized, and teach according to the program standard of training program used.
    • Assure that the learning environment is physically safe, free from discrimination, harassment, prejudice, and is culturally sensitive.
    • Take adequate precautions to prevent student injury and minimize the risk of disease transmission in the classroom
    • Have appropriate equipment available in sufficient quantities to ensure adequate hands-on practice of required psychomotor skills by each student.
    • Use only the most current version of American Red Cross written exams and take reasonable precautions to prevent cheating.
    • Sign or electronically submit a complete, accurate and legible Class Roster reflecting the actual class date(s) for every American Red Cross training class. Signing a Class Roster is confirmation that all participants listed met the Terms and Conditions for Certification.
    • Promptly respond to complaints from American Red Cross, Training Center Directors, regulatory authorities, students, customers and others.
    • Work cooperatively with the Training Center Director, regulatory authorities, law enforcement officials, students, customers, and American Red Cross to investigate and correct any situation that endangers the goodwill associated with ARC, its brands, American Red Cross training programs, approved Training Centers, and Authorized Instructors and Instructor Trainers.
    • Provide reasonable accommodation to all persons with disabilities who seek access to American Red Cross training.
    • Maintain participant level certification for BLS and BFA. The evaluation must be conducted by a different Authorized Instructor or Instructor Trainer and be properly documented by submitting a Class Roster.
    Perform additional duties as assigned to ensure the success of the YMCA and its mission-driven work.


    COMPENSATION
    $19.76 ; Part-Time, Non-Exempt (up to 25 hours/week)

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Education
    :

    High school diploma or equivalent

    • Experience
    :
    1 to 3 months of certification training experience preferred

    • Proven Expertise

    CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATION


    • American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor Certification or equivalent (required if teaching LG courses)
    • Instructor in American Red Cross First Aid, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, Oxygen Administration.
    • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) for rescue (required)
    • First Aid certification (required)
    • O2 (required)
    • AED (required)
    • State of Michigan criminal background clearance (ICHAT)
