    Director of Athletics, Recreation & Bremer Student CenterSalary: $81,126 - $91,267Classification: Administrative/ExemptReports to: Associate Vice President of Student Development & Engagement
    The Director of Athletics, Recreation & Bremer Student Center provides visionary leadership for intercollegiate and recreational programs, facilities, and activities. Reporting directly to the Associate Vice President of Student Development & Engagement, the Director will be instrumental in leading strategic planning efforts aimed at enhancing student engagement, academic achievement, and overall student satisfaction for student-athletes. As an integral member of the Student Affairs Leadership Team, they will collaborate closely with other campus leaders to shape the college's broader student affairs strategy and initiatives.This role demands a versatile skill set, spanning from overseeing athletic administration and ensuring regulatory compliance to managing budgets and fostering an inclusive campus culture. Assuming leadership and management responsibilities for all intercollegiate athletic programs, this position ensures adherence to NWAC regulations, oversees recruitment and onboarding efforts, implements effective athletic coaching and training programs that support athletic achievement, and champions retention efforts focused on academic excellence and personal growth among student-athletes. In addition, they will oversee recreational activities, manage on- and off-campus facility operations to include the fitness center, and assume responsibility for optimizing the Bremer Student Center to deliver a dynamic and enriching student experience.The priority for the Director is ensuring student success and retention. The Director will implement a comprehensive student success framework, utilizing a case management model to support the holistic development and well-being of student-athletes. This includes integrating with college support services to address academic, personal, and athletic needs effectively. Additionally, the Director will partner with the Director of Advising to develop and employ an academic achievement plan, focusing on strategies to support student retention and foster effective relationships with faculty. Furthermore, they will serve as a primary point of contact and advocate for student-athletes, providing culturally responsive support and ensuring equitable access to opportunities. Alongside this, the Director is responsible for developing clear student learning outcomes for athletic and recreational programs, designing assessment strategies, and ensuring compliance with accreditation standards and reporting requirements related to student learning outcomes. Essential Functions

    Leadership and Management

  • Provide visionary leadership to the athletics and recreation departments, guiding the development and implementation of strategic initiatives to enhance student engagement, academic achievement, and overall well-being.
  • Lead strategic planning efforts that include developing robust and desirable athletic and recreational programs, supporting student success and retention, ensuring compliance with Title IX, maintaining effective use of facilities, and aligning initiatives with college and division priorities.
  • Serve as a member of the Student Affairs Leadership Team (SALT), collaborating with campus leaders to shape the overall student affairs strategy and initiatives.
  • Develop and administer departmental budgets, allocate resources efficiently with clear accountability and transparency measures in place, and cultivate external partnerships and funding opportunities to support programmatic goals, including preparing requests to the Student Government of Olympic College (SGOC), which funds the department.
  • Develop and maintain close liaison with the sports community within the service district.
  • Oversee regular continuous improvement activities, including program reviews, evaluations and assessments of athletic and recreational programs, facilities, and services to measure effectiveness, identify areas for improvement, and ensure alignment with institutional goals and priorities.
  • Collaborate with college stakeholders to ensure compliance with all federal (e.g., Title IX), divisional, and institutional regulations governing athletics, recreation, and facility management, maintaining the highest standards of integrity, ethics, and sportsmanship.
  • Implement risk management protocols, including ensuring proper athletic insurance coverage for each sport and updating, revising, and implementing all necessary forms for eligibility to participate in NWAC or other program offerings.
  • Athletics Administration
  • Provides administrative direction and oversight for all intercollegiate athletic programs at Olympic College, developing athletic and recreational offerings that meet emerging student interests to broaden the array of opportunities for students.
  • Ensure compliance with NWAC rules and regulations, oversee eligibility determinations, maintain accurate records, interpret and enforce all NWAC rules and regulations, as well as policies and procedures of Olympic College, the State Board of Community and Technical Colleges, and the US Department of Education - Title IX, and oversee compliance with recruiting and transfer regulations of NCAA divisions I, II, and III, as well as NAIA.
  • Generate and maintain precise reporting mechanisms to meet local, state, NWAC, federal, and other compliance requirements and ensure transparency in program activities.
  • Hire, train, supervise, evaluate on a bi-yearly basis and ensure proper qualifications of a diverse team of coaches, staff, and student employees, fostering a collaborative and inclusive work environment.
  • Partner with campus and community constituents to develop innovative and forward-thinking offerings that supports students of Olympic College.
  • Oversee the recruitment, retention, and development of student-athletes, promoting academic excellence, career pathways, athletic achievement, and personal growth.
  • Administer a robust recruiting system that comports with best practices in recruiting and incorporates standardized practices consistent with the College's outreach and recruitment strategy.
  • Partner with campus constituents, such as financial aid, advising, and the Welcome Center, to ensure staff are cross trained in standardized processes, with clear deliverables and measures for success.
  • Implement a student development-informed academic success and retention plan, including robust academic and mental health supports, progress monitoring and reporting, a student athletic leadership council, and Title IX, hazing, and community standards training for student athletes, etc.
  • Ensure that all athletes who sign letters of intent are awarded jobs and/or financial aid that is promised by the letters of intent.
  • Oversee all recognition activities, including Hall of Fame determinations, locations, and events.
  • Lead efforts to develop and implement an active booster organization that supports the goals of improving community outreach and engagement.
  • Develop and implement fundraising and development efforts in support of athletic programs and scholarships.
  • Manage procurement, maintenance, and utilization of fleet vehicles for athletic events and recreational programs, ensuring compliance with safety standards, coordinating transportation logistics, monitoring expenses, and serving as the primary contact for vehicle-related matters.
  • Champion gender equity, diversity, and inclusion in all athletic programs, promoting opportunities for underrepresented groups and fostering a culture of respect and sportsmanship.
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive marketing and communications plan for athletics, including managing the department's webpage and implementing strategies to enhance visibility and engagement.
  • Represent the institution at professional associations, serve as NWAC Commissioner, and advocate for the college's interests in regional and national forums.
  • Recreation Management
  • Supervise recreational and occasional wellbeing opportunities for students, coordinating with the Director of Wellbeing and Health Promotion and Counseling to offer diverse programming and facilities to meet the evolving needs and interests of the campus community.
  • Oversee the departmental budget for recreational activities, ensuring fiscal responsibility and accountability and alignment with institutional priorities.
  • Monitor the fitness center and equipment for safety and functionality, and implement institutional policies and procedures to maintain a positive recreational experience for all users.
  • Facilities Oversight
  • In partnership with facility owners, oversee all aspects of on and off-campus facilities operations, including aspects of security and safety, supervision of staff, student employees, and athletes, and ensuring a positive experience for spectators and other members of the public in those spaces.
  • In coordination with other campus stakeholders (e.g., instruction, facilities), manage and coordinate the use of athletic facilities, including the gym, locker rooms, batting cages, fitness center and other on-campus facilities, ensuring they meet the needs of student-athletes and recreational users.
  • Coordinate the use of off-campus sites for athletic events and practices, negotiating agreements and ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and policies.
  • Assessment and Student Learning Outcomes
  • Develop and articulate clear student learning outcomes for athletic and recreational programs, ensuring alignment with institutional goals and priorities.
  • Design and implement assessment strategies to measure student achievement of learning outcomes, collecting and analyzing data to inform programmatic improvements and decision-making.
  • Collaborate with faculty, staff, and stakeholders to integrate assessment findings into programmatic planning and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Ensure compliance with accreditation standards and reporting requirements related to assessment and student learning outcomes.
  • Student Success & Retention
  • Implement a comprehensive student success framework within the athletics department, utilizing a case management model to support the holistic development and well-being of student-athletes, ensuring full integration with college support services such as academic advising, counseling centers, and other student resources to address academic, personal, and athletic needs effectively.
  • Develop and assess an academic achievement plan within the athletics department, focusing on strategies to support student retention, foster effective relationships with faculty members, and educate faculty and staff about the unique needs of student-athletes to ensure their academic success and overall well-being.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact and advocate for student-athletes, providing culturally responsive support, guidance, and resources to ensure equitable access to academic, personal, and athletic opportunities.
  • Bremer Student Center (BSC)
  • Oversee the overall student experience in the Bremer Student Center.
  • Partner with BSC and campus stakeholders and serve as the primary point of contact between facility users and the supporting operational teams, to prioritize student needs against the effective use of campus space.
  • Conduct regular monitoring of equipment for safety and maintenance needs.
  • Develop and oversee the implementation of the BSC budget to optimize resources and support facility objectives.
  • Adhere to all institutional policies and procedures to maintain a safe and compliant environment.
  • Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in athletic administration, coaching, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in supervising and managing staff.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience working directly with diverse student populations.
  • Able to work extended hours and be on call nights and weekends.
  • Desired Qualifications
    • Master's degree in sports management, recreation administration, higher education administration, or a related field.
    • Previous experience working in a collegiate athletics environment.
    • Familiarity with Title IX compliance requirements and best practices.
    • Experience overseeing athletic and recreation facilities, including gymnasiums, batting cages, fitness centers, athletic fields, and other similar facilities.
    • Experience with budgeting, fundraising, and development efforts to support athletic programs and scholarships.
    • Professional certifications in athletic administration or related areas.

    Terms of Employment

    This is a full-time exempt position scheduled to work Monday through Friday.
