The lab focuses on analysis of samples to measure metabolic pathway fluxes in vivo that are critical to health and disease.
The SRA must be familiar with the biochemistry, physiology, disease implications and analytic methods involved.The work influences diagnosis and treatment of disease and maintenance of wellness, and the work has to be accurate and well documented.
Application Review DateAnalyze biologic samples by mass spectrometry.
Perform standard repetitive laboratory procedures at the full operational level for metabolic physiology research, particularly stable isotope measurements by mass spectrometry including qualitative and quantitative analyses of unknowns, using standard methods and developing modifications of standard methods to meet special needs.
Perform non-standard laboratory procedures requiring ingenuity, resourcefulness, and adaptability to special and changing needs of research in the specialized field of metabolic physiology, particularly stable isotope measurements by mass spectrometry.
Oversee regulatory aspects of the laboratory.Manage data and record keeping.
Strong experience with mass spectrometric techniques and instruments, particularly gas chromatography/mass spectrometry and quantitative analysis after stable isotope labeling and trouble-shooting and managing the instruments and insuring proper operation and maintenance of laboratory equipment.
Biochemical laboratory skills.Experience with data management, graphics usage, maintenance of files, and sample logistics.
Experience training students and supervising technical staff as this position will be assigned management responsibility for a small laboratory unit, with at least one Staff Research Associate I or a group of lower-level laboratory employees such as Laboratory Assistants, Animal Technicians, undergraduate volunteers, etc.
Data analysis and interpretation experience.Capability to learn and manage new administrative responsibilities with outside entities.
Regulatory experience in academic laboratories (chemical inventory, biohazards, animal use, etc.).
Education/Training:
~ Bachelor's of Arts/Science or Master's in a scientific field and/or equivalent of education/training.

The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $30.This is a 50%, part-time (20 hours per week), career position that is eligible for UC benefits.
This position is governed by the terms and conditions in the agreement for the Research Support Professionals Unit (RX) between the University of California and the University Professional and Technical Employees (UPTE).
