- Assists in the establishment and maintenance of a comprehensive school health program. Establish and implement effective procedures for mandatory screening programs. Serve as health liaison between school, physicians, parents, and community.
- Works collaboratively with health care providers, students, parents, school district staff and community agencies to ensure access and continuity of care for students. Provides guidance, counseling and health education to students, parents and employees as necessary.
- Conducts school programs of immunization, physical examinations, and sight and hearing testing. Coordinate management system to administer medications to students at school. Administer medications according to district policy and procedures.
- Collects information about the health development status of students for compliance with state immunization regulations and Board of Education policies. Review and evaluate immunization records.
- Assess student problems and make appropriate referrals working with students, teachers, parents, and medical and health care professionals as needed. Evaluates nursing care provided and changes plan of care as necessary.
- Implements Board policy with respect to the exclusion and readmission of students in connection with certain infectious and contagious diseases.
- Maintains accurate records and documentation in accordance with state and federal law, and Board of Education policies.
- Develops individual health care plan (ICHP) when needed with specific goals, nursing diagnosis, and interventions delineating school-nursing actions unique to students' needs and for incorporation into the student's individualized educational plan (IEP).
- Serves as a member of school teams as designated health care professional. Participate in Admission, Review, and Dismissal Committee, crisis team, and school committees and develops Individual Health Plan. Collaborate with other professionals regarding implementation of health-related Individual Education Plan (IEP) items.
- Intervenes as guided by the nursing care plan to implement nursing actions that promote, maintain or restore health, prevent illness and effect rehabilitation.
- Report potential health and safety hazards to principal. Reports to parents, school district personnel, physicians, clinics, and others as needed to meet student health needs. Notify parents of accident or illness and secure medical care for students in emergency cases (if parents or emergency contact cannot be reached).
- Provides instruction and training regarding the Heimlich maneuver, Blood Borne Pathogen training, the school district's Emergency plan, and with regard to providing care for students, including students with disabilities.
- Contributes to nursing and school health through innovations in theory; practice and participation in research, including narrative and statistical reports.
- Notifies the appropriate person or agency of student's injury/illness in accordance with Board policy as necessary. Participate in assessment and reporting of suspected child abuse.
- Confers with parents, students and school district staff and professionals to interpret health and developmental assessments.
- Make home visits to help with student health problems as necessary with permission of principal.
- Communicate regularly with principal, health services coordinator, school counselor, teachers, parents, food services, and other staff regarding health services issues.
- Supervise and train nurse aide(s) and LVN(s) in clinic procedures and responsibilities according to district policy.
- Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required, including clinic records and accurate, updated health records on all students.
- Requisition supplies and equipment needed to maintain clinic inventory.
- Comply with policies established by federal and state laws, Texas Department of Health rule, State Board of Education rule, and board policy in health services area. Comply with all district and campus routines and regulations.
- Maintain RN licenses and certification in CPR, vision/hearing/scoliosis and acanthosis nigricans screening, and as a health screener.
- Provide direct care utilizing school health protocols and care plans established by the district nurse (RN).
- Administer medication to students according to board policy and district procedures.
- Take vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration rate and blood pressure). Communicate findings to required district staff and or parents.
- Implement mandatory screening programs and complete required reports.
- Contribute to and implement the individualized student health care plans as established by the district nurse (RN).
- Collaborate with campus principal, school counselor, teachers, parents, food service and other staff regarding the health needs of the general population and those students with identified health conditions.
- Communicate with parents regarding individual students.
- Participate in Admission, Review and Dismissal Committee (ARD) meeting of students with identifiable health needs.
- Collaborate with other professionals regarding implementation of health-related Individual Education Plan (IEP) items.
- Educate faculty or staff as needed on health-related topics.
- Provide guidance to unlicensed assistive personnel or other school staff on health-related tasks.
- Contact local emergency services according to established district health services protocols.
- Maintain accurate student health records, including immunization records, medication administration records, reportable accidents, communicable disease data & referrals, and individual student treatment records.
- Compile, maintain and file all physical and computerized reports, records and other documents required, including accurate, updated health records on all students.
- Prepare correspondence, reports and records using personal computer and send out reports to parents.
- Maintain clinic supply inventory and request supplies as needed.
- Comply with policies established by federal and state laws, Texas Department of Health rules, State Board of Education rules and Board policy in health services areas.

Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Graduate of an accredited professional nursing education program
Valid Registered Nurse license to practice professional nursing in Texas from the State Board of Nurse Examiners
Certified by Texas Department of Health to conduct vision and hearing screening
CPR Certification
Acceptable background check and fingerprinting results
Special Knowledge/Skills:
