    The Position


    The City of Cedar Park is seeking qualified applicants for the position ofEquipment Operator Ito work on the Streets Maintenance Team.


    JOB SUMMARY
    Performs a variety of maintenance, manual labor, and construction tasks. Work involves maintaining repairing streets, drainage ways, right of way, and various other outdoor areas.

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS for Equipment Operators I:

    • Operates tools and machinery including pneumatic and electric jack hammers, mechanical and manual saws, mechanical and manual hammers, hammer drills, sledge hammers, pick-axe, Maddox, digging bars, and other hand-held power tools, including other rotating and vibrating power tools;
    • Loads, transports, and unloads necessary equipment and materials for assigned projects;
    • Checks oil, water, fuel, tires, and hydraulic system, and performs other routine inspections to ensure vehicles are in proper working condition;
    • Grades, maintains, patches, seals cracks and resurfaces streets, repairs potholes;
    • Levels streets and other areas, digs and maintains drainage ditches and culverts, tamps, packs, and levels dirt, asphalt, or other material;
    • Assists with sanding and de-icing roadways, bridges and sidewalks during inclement weather conditions;
    • Assists with the set up and take down of road work traffic control areas, sets up barricades at work sites to warn traffic of hazardous areas;
    • Performs routine inspections and repairs of guardrails as needed;
    • Prunes/cuts vegetation, including grasses, shrubs and trees;
    • Cuts, collects, and disposes of tree limbs, trash, and general debris found along streets, roads, drainage system, and other city facilities;
    • Installs, maintains, and repairs street signs and pavement markings, paints crosswalks and school zone lines;
    • Cleans and restores storm water facilities and systems;
    • Performs weed and brush control along drainage ways and storm water facilities;
    • Assists in repairing water leaks when necessary;
    • Enters completed work orders into computer system;
    • Works a rotating on-call schedule to address after-hour needs; and
    • Performs such other related duties as may be assigned.
    Acceptable Experience, Training, Certifications and Licenses


    Equipment Operator I:

    • High School Diploma, or its equivalent, plus one (1) year of general maintenance experience, and the ability to lift 50 pounds and stand for lengthy periods of time;
    * or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.


    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    Knowledge of:

    the safe operation of the equipment used and of the provisions of the Texas Motor Vehicle Code relating to operation of light and heavy motorized equipment; and methods, practices, material, and equipment used in street and drainage system construction and maintenance.


    Skill/Ability to:

    operate light and heavy motorized equipment effectively and safely; service and make minor repairs on equipment, applying safety standards to prevent hazards; understand and follow instructions; use small office equipment, including copy machines or multi-line telephone systems and computers for data entry; and establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers.

    Able to lift up to 75 lbs.
