    Job DescriptionThe Criminal Defense Practice of The Legal Aid Society has an opening for a Support Staff in its Richmond County office to provide client services

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIESMessenger assignmentsReceptionist work:

    answering phones, delivering messages, and routing calls to legal staffPerform all word processing as neededCopy, fax, scan, collate, and batch documentsDistribute various documentsEnter and search for data on various databasesGenerate daily, weekly, and monthly reports from various databasesUpdate court calendarsSend and retrieve files from archivesCatalogue and update library materialsOffice filingCreate and maintain case filesSort and deliver mail (may involve going to post office), including UPS/FEDEX, Airborne, etc.

    Prepare and deliver court filingsProvide general information to clients, clients' families, vendors, and staffReview, code, and process documentsOther duties as assignedRequirementsHigh school diploma, GED, or equivalent work experienceHigh proficiency in word processing and computer skills, especially Microsoft OfficeStrong interpersonal, communications, and organizational skillsAbility to work independently and in a team settingAbility to problem-solve and multi-taskPosition may require work in office, courtroom, and other field settingsFluency in a second language common to our client population is preferredSALARY TRANSPARENCY The posting reflects the range of potential salaries for the role.

    The specific salary offers will be dependent on candidate qualifications, including collectively bargained salary steps for unionized roles.


    Salary Range/ Salary:

    This position allows an employee to take advantage of PSLF and other State and Federal loan forgiveness programs.

    Additionally, employees who are New York residents may be eligible for assistance from New York state to assist with loan repayments, depending on years of practice.
